Speaking in tongues, according to the Bible, is a spiritual gift given by the Holy Spirit. It first appeared in Acts 2, when the disciples spoke in different languages on the day of Pentecost, and people from various nations could understand them. This showed the power of God and the spread of the gospel beyond language barriers. In 1 Corinthians 12 and 14, Paul explained that speaking in tongues is one of many spiritual gifts, but he emphasized that it should be used in love and order, especially during worship gatherings. It is meant to build up the church, not confuse it.

Speaking in tongues is seen as a way to communicate with God in a deeper, spiritual manner, often when words are not enough. However, Paul also stressed that if no one can interpret the message, it’s better to remain silent in church so others aren’t left confused. This shows that while the gift is valid, it must be exercised with care, humility, and respect for others. In essence, the Bible supports speaking in tongues as a divine gift, but it encourages balance, understanding, and love in its practice.
