Ya tocaba ver esta película. Era uno de los clásicos que me faltaba ver. A pesar de estar referenciado en diversas series o películas, no sabía con exactitud la trama, así que pude disfrutarla sin problemas. Fue estrenada en 1942, siendo director Michael Curtiz.

It was time to see this movie. It was one of the classics I had yet to see. Despite being referenced in several series or movies, I did not know the exact plot, so I could enjoy it without problems. It was released in 1942, being director Michael Curtiz.

Sinopsis: Los eventos se desarrollan en medio de la 2da guerra mundial. Rick Blaine dirige un local nocturno en Casablanca(ciudad neutral en Marruecos). Un lugar donde diversas personas como oficiales, jugadores, asilados y otros, hacen sus negocios y tratos en medio de la música y juegos. Es cuando la llegada de un famoso activista de la resistencia Victor Lazlo y su esposa, cambiará la rutina de Rick.

Synopsis: The events take place in the middle of World War II. Rick Blaine runs a nightclub in Casablanca (neutral city in Morocco). A place where various people such as officers, gamblers, asylum seekers and others, do their business and deals amidst music and games. It is when the arrival of a famous resistance activist Victor Lazlo and his wife, will change Rick's routine.

Si bien al comienzo la trama se asemeja más a una historia de espías, es cuando conocemos a la ex-amante de Rick, que el romance toma el foco de la historia. En donde veremos como un irresuelto pasado, tomará control de las decisiones futuras en el protagonista. En medio de ello, se ve el funcionamiento de Rick’s Cafe, con sus carismáticos personajes, entre empleados y visitantes. El dinamismo es bueno.

While at the beginning the plot resembles more of a spy story, it is when we meet Rick's ex-lover that the romance takes the focus of the story. Where we will see how an unresolved past, will take control of future decisions in the protagonist. In the midst of this, we see the operation of Rick's Cafe, with its charismatic characters, among employees and visitors. The dynamism is good.

El guión deja bastantes frases memorables y que ya se han quedado en el colectivo popular, como “Siempre nos quedará París”. Es interesante ver el uso del escenario principal, Rick’s Cafe, volviendolo un ente en sí.

The script leaves quite a few memorable phrases that have already remained in the popular collective, such as "We'll always have Paris". It is interesting to see the use of the main stage, Rick's Cafe, turning it into an entity in itself.

Entre lo mejor está el trabajo Dooley Wilson como Sam, el pianista, que da un excelente plus con la música. También me gustó Claude Rains como el capitán Louis Renalt.

Entre lo negativo, veo muy irreal como se habla de ciertos documentos de forma tan abierta. A veces el cambio de humor en el romance es un tanto inconsistente. El final si bien me gusta, creo que pudo cerrar mejor ciertos detalles.

Among the negatives, I find it very unrealistic how certain documents are talked about so openly. Sometimes the change of mood in the romance is somewhat inconsistent. The ending while I like it, I think it could have closed better certain details.

Casablanca es considerada un clásico y no me queda duda de por qué. Mezcla una historia bélica/espías con un romance agridulce, sumada a buenas actuaciones con una gran producción, no dejará de gustar ni en futuras generaciones. Muy recomendable.

Casablanca is considered a classic and I have no doubt why. It mixes a war/spy story with a bittersweet romance, added to good performances with a great production, it will not fail to please even in future generations. Highly recommended.
