Reseña: Una casa llena de dinamita // Review: A House of Dynamite
La directora Kathryn Bigelow ha encontrado un estilo en el thriller político que destaca. Ya me convenció su buen trabajo con “The Hurt Locker” y “Zero Dark Thirty”. Es por ello que no me sorprendió el entretenido resultado de este título. Se estrenó hace poco en Netflix.
Director Kathryn Bigelow has found a style in political thrillers that stands out. I was already convinced by her excellent work in The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty. That's why I wasn't surprised by the entertaining result of this title. It was recently released on Netflix.
Sinopsis: Un día que se notaba rutinario, desde un lugar no identificado del océano Pacifico sale un misil nuclear en dirección a Estados Unidos. Es en ese momento que diferentes instancias y organizaciones se ponen en alerta máxima, para tratar de pararlo, buscar responsabilidades y posibles respuestas. El futuro de la humanidad estará en juego.
Synopsis: On what seems like a routine day, a nuclear missile is launched from an unidentified location in the Pacific Ocean toward the United States. At that moment, various agencies and organizations go on high alert to try to stop it, find those responsible, and come up with possible answers. The future of humanity is at stake.
Si bien ya hay películas que nos hablan del peligro nuclear, no recuerdo alguno, como este título, que tenga tan excelente trabajo en crear tensión, sintiéndose que está ocurriendo de verdad mientras ves la película. Se nota que el trabajo en documentar es detallado, y nos permite ver en primer plano, todas las decisiones, reuniones y responsables, involucrados en tratar una amenaza como tal.
While there are already films that talk about the danger of nuclear weapons, I can't remember any that do such an excellent job of creating tension, making you feel like it's really happening while you watch the film. It's clear that the documentary work is detailed, allowing us to see up close all the decisions, meetings, and people involved in dealing with such a threat.
Y dando un poco de spoiler, tengo que mencionar que la trama hace un reboot de las situaciones vistas tres veces, para cambiar la perspectiva, con otros involucrados. Por otro lado, se busca generar una reflexión sobre la amenaza real de haber creado un mundo actual con un depósito de armas capaces de barrer ciudades, en donde se prioriza la estrategia militar al diálogo u otras soluciones.
And giving away a bit of a spoiler, I have to mention that the plot reboots the situations seen three times, to change the perspective, with others involved. On the other hand, it seeks to generate reflection on the real threat of having created a world today with a stockpile of weapons capable of wiping out cities, where military strategy is prioritized over dialogue or other solutions.
Dicho lo anterior, tiene un punto débil, que es su final demasiado abierto. No creo que guste a muchos, la falta de una resolución, aunque puedan entenderse los motivos, de generar conciencia mas que señalar culpables o mostrar grandes secuencias de catástrofe.
That said, it does have one weak point, which is its overly open ending. I don't think many people will like the lack of resolution, although the reasons for this can be understood: to raise awareness rather than point fingers or show scenes of catastrophe.
La fotografía es buena, aunque como es principalmente en espacios cerrados, no es algo que llame mucho la atención. La música si logra crear la tensión necesaria en todo momento. La actuación está bien pero no destaco a nadie en particular.
The cinematography is good, although as it is mainly set in enclosed spaces, it doesn't really stand out. The music does manage to create the necessary tension throughout. The acting is fine, but I wouldn't single out anyone in particular.
Me ha gustado la película, especialmente el primer tramo, donde la tensión es fuerte y te sientes viendo las noticias en vivo. Logra su cometido de generar reflexión sobre el peligro nuclear. Recomendable.
I liked the film, especially the first part, where the tension is strong and you feel like you're watching the news live. It achieves its goal of making you think about the danger of nuclear power. Recommended.
