Book Review: Understanding Financial Prosperity by Bishop David O. Oyedepo

The stronghold of poverty is at the highest esteem in the world especially in Africa and Nigeria to be precise. Many people live in poverty wishing they were lucky enough to prosper or connected enough to make it and some of those who even want to break free from poverty thinks if they can work so hard breakthrough is at the door but only hard work doesn't work for everyone. Therefore everyone is left with the question "How can I be rich or prosperous legally without stealing or killing anybody?", "how can I break the jaws of poverty in my life?" 🤔.

Financial prosperity is something everyone looks forward to, everyone wants to be financially free, people dream big, we all want to be famous and wealthy, even when any average college boy is asked how rich he wants to be , he will surely say he wants to be the richest man in the world 😂. Everybody wants to be rich and prosperous but not everyone really understands how to get this financial prosperity and sustain it. I also became inquisitive on how to be financially free and my roommate recommended this book to me, which is "Understanding Financial Prosperity".

"Understanding Financial Prosperity" was a book written by a man God has raised in this generation to show everyone the pathway to kingdom prosperity and has always been a financial figure God has blessed abundantly. Bishop David O. Oyedepo is the President of Living Faith Church Worldwide. He is the Lead Pastor of Faith Tabernacle, Canaan Land in Ota, Nigeria. He has written and published so many books which have blessed many especially in the Christendom.

This book teaches about the foundation for prosperity, the covenant dimension of prosperity, consecration, why God prospers (to be a blessing to others especially the poor, for God's kingdom sake etc), the covenant platform for prosperity, how God prospers(giving, working, thinking, trusting, waiting, talking and thanking) and the hidden covenants in prosperity. The author used more of the story of Father Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the Bible as an example and how they encountered generational wealth by walking, trusting and obeying God in everything.

I learnt that it's not what you are selling or the business you are involved in that will determine your prosperity but the light under which you are operating that determines the results you get. The power of wealth is released on the platform of the covenant, God is a covenant keeper and His side of every covenant is secured. However, it's the human side of the covenant that is variable, many fail in their field or environment because they lack the required light to dominate the environment , many people have the teachings and know the principles of financial prosperity but they lack the foundation which is Christ, sin brought poverty into the world and it's only the blood of Christ that can make one free from sin and make man free indeed. After this freedom, the ways a man can come into the financial freedom is by consecration and dedication to God, the act of giving cheerful (because according to God there's always seed time and harvest), being a blessing to the poor, the act of exercising faith for the season of harvest and plenty.

In addition to that, wisdom is needed to get wealth. Work alone doesn't make rich but creative work that guarantees productivity turns wealth. All the wealth of the universe came out of wisdom even Elon Musk still thinks till today on how to build a new idea that will bring in more money so anyone that wants to be financially free must learn how to think outside the box and put efforts in the right channel, trust God, partner with God and await your breakthroughs. However, keep talking to people about what you do without lies, keeping integrity, learn to honour people in words and deeds and having the attitude of thanksgiving in everything.

One thing that stood out for me in this book is when It says " Your due season of prosperity doesn't answer to prayers, it's only after the cloud of your giving is full that they empty themselves upon the earth as a blessing so your programmed effort should be filling the clouds again and again by giving and giving till the cloud is full" this means giving is very essential to building wealth, keep giving and doing the right things in your career or business and very soon when the cloud is full, the rain of blessings will surely fall and cause a overflow of wealth.

I can keep writing and writing about all I have learnt and applied in my life just by reading this blessing of a book but I will end by saying God is interested in your prosperity, He wants everyone of us to be very prosperous, He didn't create anyone to die poverty-stricken and He is very pleased in the prosperity of His people.
