Christisn Gottlob Höpner, Wer nur den lieben Gott (1)
The melody of "Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten" is almost perfect for the warm mildly chromatic harmonic style of Christian Gottlog Höpner. Which is probably why his opus 2 contains two preludes based on this melody. The first one features the choral melody in the bass voice, played with the pedals. The accompaniment is based on a motif played in the first bar with the left hand. The motif returns in various forms more than 30 times in the composition, creating the suggestiont that this motif is the driving force of the music, more so than the choral melody.
The recording was done with the Hauptwerk software and the sampleset, made by Voxus, of the Müller organ in the Sint Bavokerk, Haarlem (http://www.voxusorgans.com/en/product/haarlem).
