Josef Ferdinand Norbert Seger, Præludium G Dur (L 9)

Seger's prelude in G major (l 9) features a short introduction of 9 bars that leads to the tonic of G major, after which the actual piece starts in "Alla breve" time. I gue

ss that means that I should play it twice as fast as the introduction.

The manuscript explicitly indicates that the first low G should be played with the pedals. After that it is anyone's guess whether or not the pedals should be used. I decided (again) to use the pedals in my performance.

It is a very nice prelude, not too long, not too complicated. It feels like it was improvsed. It does not have a 'main theme' or something like that, it develops as a series of motivic plays, where one of the voices start a litlle motif that the other voices echo, after which another voice starts another litlle motif. Harmonically it goes up and down a little but not too much. It is actually intruiging that a composition in which nothing really happens, can sound so well.
