My visit to a wine yard and winery near Nyaung Shwe, Myanmar

Dear friends,

Yesterday, I visited a wine yard and winery near Nyaung Shwe, which is about 19 miles from my town, Taunggyi, Southern Shan state, Myanmar.

The wine yard and winery that I visited is called "Red Mountain Estate" and is about 3 miles from Nyaung Shwe. It is a nice quiet but a little arid place and is visited it for its beautiful scenery and wine. The wine yard has about 5 acre of plantations and the required grapes are imported from abroad and other parts of Myanmar. It has a restaurant on the hill and it overlooks the beautiful Inlay lake in distance. Visitors usually drop by to this place while visiting Inlay Lake, which one of the popular tourism places in Myanmar. Currently, Myanmar has only two wineries and this "Red Mountain Estate" is one of them. Below are some of the photos I have taken when I visited there.

The wine I tried was "late harvest" (now they call it another way) and cost me about 7 USD. There are some other variety as well. It was delicious and the price was reasonable I think. The wine yard and winery should be in your itinerary when you visit Inlay Lake and Southern Shan State. You can travel there by air and it is about 21 miles from Heho airport. It is a nice place and one can take refuge from the mid-day heat with some cold wine.
