Gender discrimination isn't the best solution to some situations but I live in a country where some people believe that females shouldn't be seen in some places.

Some companies don't appreciate females working for them while some make use of females to sell their products which is not right.

While in some organizations they choose females over males because of the benefits they want to have from the female personally.

I have been to some organizations that favor females because their bosses believe that they can make use of those females working for them to satisfy themselves which is very wrong.

When my sister told me to submit my CV to the company where she works because they were hiring people, I was so glad because the job I was doing then wasn't giving me enough salary. I went to the cafe to print out my CV and applied immediately.

But when I got there it was a different story entirely, at first the person collecting the CV who happens to be their supervisor told me that they are not hiring a woman because I might get pregnant anytime and that is not good for the company.

I was disappointed and was about to leave when someone call me back, "Hello, excuse me, sis". I looked back it was an old man who happens to be their production manager, he asked me what the supervisor said and I told him then he said, "If you rub my back I will rub yours too, as a girl you should know what that means" I couldn't believe my ears.

How can someone who is old enough to be my father want to rub my back because I needed a job and because he wants to smuggle me inside the company?

I was angry and I put a call through to my sister, she picked and I explained everything that is happening outside to her. She told me to ask for one Mr King so I head back and asked for the person. I was directed to his office and when I got there he looked at me from head to my toe and said, "You don't look like someone that need work and besides this kind of work won't suit you" I smiled and told him I needed the job so bad.

He asked me to stretch my two hands which I did and he said, "This your hands are too soft for factory work but I will give you a try and if you can't cope then you will have to withdraw" I said, "ok" but inside me, I said at least this one is not going to rub my back just like that old man.

I was employed and among the people that were employed that day I was the only female among them the way that Mr. King was showing me around everyone thought I did a bed interview because he doesn't joke with a woman as well especially beautiful girls but because of my sister he couldn't ask me for such thing.

I started working and I tried my possible best to prove to them that I might look soft but I am strong, two weeks after some of those guys that were employed with me left because they couldn't cope with the stress of that work. My king came to my machine after 3 weeks to see how far I have learned and he was surprised that I am doing just fine with the work my first operator in the factory liked me so much because I look soft but strong.

Sometimes I wonder why some company thinks that female can't handle their work and because they thought that female might get pregnant they choose to employ only male. Well, gender discrimination is a very bad thing because we all are equal, don't get that wrong. We are not equal in everything but everyone should be given a chance at least to try.

If that man didn't give me a try, he wouldn't know how strong I am. He judged me by my look and gender and in the end among everyone that got employed the same day as me I was the only one that stayed, all the guys left.

Lesson learned

Being a male or female doesn't change anything as far as you can do something you should be given a chance to try.
