Unexpected crayon blessing

Dammy and his parents live in a very small town not far from the city but because they are poor they can't afford to go to the city. Dammy was in junior class and he admired drawing so much but his parents were too poor to get him drawing tools

"Mama look at this, I drew it for you," Dammy said as he showed his mother the drawing he drew.

"This is beautiful my son and I am sure you will make it with this talent of yours," his mother said as she admired the drawing.

Some minutes later

"I am set for market please make sure you finish your food before you go to school," his mother said as she grabbed her basket of fruit.

"What of Papa, Is he not going out?" Dammy asked while dressing up for school.

"He left very early so that he could plant more crops" his mother replied again before she stepped out of the house.

The day went well for everyone and in the evening everyone was back before the sunset.

"Mama! Mama!! Mama!!" Dammy shouted in front of the house and her mother who was in the kitchen got scared, she thought something had happened to Dammy so she rushed outside.

"What is it?" She asked while she panted heavily.

"I saw some people that came from the city" Dammy replied in a happy mood.

"Did you know I can slap you for what you just did?" His mother asked with anger.

"But Mama, I didn't do anything" Dammy replied while using his leg to make some funny sound on the floor.

"Really? I nearly fell from running down here I thought something had happened to you" his mother replied.

Dammy knew his mother was angry so he tried to move back so that she wouldn't receive a slap from his mother.
Some minutes later the dinner was ready and Dammy and his parents were eating.

"I want to become a farmer like my father when I grow up" Dammy said bluntly, his parents looked at each other and then burst into laughter.

"My dear son, finish your food first" his father replied with a faint smile on his face.

After dinner, the three of them sat outside of the house to take a breeze and his mother said, "My dear son, we don't want you to live the way we have lived all our lives".

"We want you to become great with your talent," his father joined the conversation while Dammy listened to all that they were saying.

"We want you to study in the city to have a great life" his mother said.

Some years later, Dammy had finished secondary school but his parents still didn't have money to send him to the city so all he did was sell pencil drawings in the village, everyone in the village loved his drawings and that fetched him money but it is not enough to move out of the village.

One morning Dammy left home to draw something different in the bush but on his way, he heard someone screaming, so he rushed down to another direction to check what was going on.

"OMG, who are you and what are you doing here in the bush," Dammy asked immediately he set his eyes on a beautiful young lady.

"What? What are you doing here," the lady replied then hissed while she tried to pack her drawing tools that were scattered on the floor.

"Oh really? I heard you scream," Dammy replied then turned to leave when he saw the scattered crayons on the floor so he moved closer then grabbed one of them.

"What did you think you are doing? Put that down," the girl screams again.

"Oh sorry," Dammy replied and then dropped the crayon immediately.

"So you even know how to apologize," the girl replied.
Dammy smiled and then replied, "I was raised well, my name is Dammy".

"Dolapo," she replied sharply.

They both gist shared some information about eachother and they sat in the bush for some hours while drawing different things, Dolapo allowed Dammy to draw with her crayons and Dammy's drawing was very much better than Dolapo's drawing. He took her home later when they were done drawing and Dammy gave her the crayon drawing.

Some months later

"Hello, is anyone at home?" Dolapo shouted outside.

"Hello my beautiful daughter, how may I help you?" Dammy's mother came out and then replied to her.

Dolapo greeted her before she proceeded with what she wanted to say.

"Good after ma'am, I am Dolapo Dammy's friend we met some months ago here in the village when my aunty brought me here during the holiday," Dolapo explained.

"Oh I see, come in," Dammy's mother ushered her into the room, and Dolapo noticed how poor they were so she quickly said, "Dammy won a scholarship in the city".

"What? Yo... Said what?" Dammy's mother couldn't find her sentence but then Dolapo explained.

" I am sorry I did that to your Dammy ma'am, what happened was they I... Am... I submitted Dammy's crayon drawing in an art competition and I was picked as the winner, meanwhile I don't deserve that so I have come to take Dammy so that he can claim the money his crayon drawing won".

Dammy's mother couldn't believe everything but it was true anyway, that was how Dammy's crayon drawing turned his life around for the better he took his family and then went to stay in the city while he continued his education that had been paused for years.

The chance encounter in the bush with Dolapo allows the plot to unfold in an unexpected way. I like how Dolapo recognizes Dammy's superior talent and selflessly gives up her art contest prize so he can claim the scholarship. Their bonding over art in the bush is a nice moment. Dolapo's action to track down Dammy's family and tell them the truth shows integrity. The story sends an inspiring message, The ending where he moves his family to the city and continues his education is very satisfying.

Regardless of what Dolapo did, she has a good heart because if she was a bad person, she wouldn't have come looking for Dammy to claim the scholarship.

Dammy on the other hand is talented and he will definitely succeed with his drawing skills because it started already.

Yeah, if someone didn't give up on what he or she is doing he will definitely make it through that same thing.
