A favourable subject as a teacher and why?

While we were in school, we had a few favourite subjects we'd loved to keep seeing each week and we never got tired of learning them because it's what we love. But for subjects we detest, no amount of inspiration would change our minds because we loathe them. Unfortunately, we would have to take them for our career choice. I had such subjects while in secondary school which were Biology, Accounting and Christian Religious Knowledge. There is more to that C.R.K than the normal "what is thanksgiving? Why do we worship God etc?"

I was a primary school teacher for over four years; adding up both public and private schools now. If you have taught in a primary school before and as a primary school class teacher, you will agree with me that there is no taking of one subject except there are external teachers who come to take one or two subjects for some time and they leave. I had one woman while teaching in a private school, she comes to teach Computer studies on Mondays and Yoruba language on Fridays for just two hours each.

While as a primary school class teacher, I took all subjects which were 13 in number; they include Mathematics, English, Social Studies, Health Education, CRK, Home Economics, Agric, Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning, Handwriting, Drawings, etc. Though it was tedious work especially when you had to prepare lesson plans for all subjects each week, I had one favourite subject I loved taking much which was Social Studies. I love this subject so much especially because it has to do with society and becoming a good person.

I find this subject interesting with sweet subtopics which of them are; Family, Marriage, Religion, Culture, Stereotypes and the like. When it comes to these topics, I give my best to explain with real-life examples as my instructional materials which would be easily understood by the pupils.

Egbonn.png

I was a teacher before and would continue in that line and I wouldn't want to ignore taking this subject because of these reasons;

Social Studies is an educational discipline that focuses on studying various human aspects. It talks about how to communicate, interact, and behave among others in society. The content in this subject allows young learners to understand what communication is, and how to relate with the immediate environment, institutions, and society to be equipped and know the past.

Social Studies teaches young children and citizens how to make reasonable and informed decisions in a democratic and culturally diverse society. Simply put this, to educate young ones in the best way to be prepared for modern society.

Egbonn.png

Teaching children about family, religion, and marriage will help them understand the need to raise a family, how to make proper plans as regards uniting with family, what marriage entails, how religion is born, the need to love irrespective of religion as discrimination would be made understandable to them etc.

Social Studies is a sweet and informative subject on its own and these children need to be trained and educated to become the best citizen in society.

Egbonn.png

In summary, being a social studies teacher would help you inspire pupils or students to critically think about the world they live in. You will have the opportunity to teach them how the government is being functioned and finally, teach them how to research the fact to support their ideas.

Thanks for your time on my blog.

I find Social Studies as an easy to teach and easy to learn subject. It isn't very stressful and the explanations are quite straightforward. Plus, if you're a teacher that knows what's-up, it could become a fun and interactive class.

Honestly, I enjoyed social studies as a teacher and student. It has to do with things happening around us and there are countless real life examples to apply when teaching to make things easy for your student to assimilate.

My social studies teacher was a jovial man in junior school and he really made learning easy for us.

I don´t think there wouldn´t be a jovial and funny teacher taking this subject because there are funny instructional materials you're going to be using that would make the class lively.

Social studies! How time flies, I loved that subject while in primary school too, it was an easy to understand subject, at least most pupils like it, so you will enjoy your class.

Everyone has a favourite subject and most of them want to teach others that subject because in that subject they feel comefortable to teach others. I liked your choice and the reason you shared here. But my favourite subject is different 🙂.

My God! I just fainted seeing how many subjects you had to teach primary students. How did you even manage??

I think Primary school students may be really challenging to teach, compared with higher levels. What do you think? I think they have too much energy and require so much attention.

You are right. Lol... Teaching primary schools can be challenging because of the number of subjects you will take as a class teacher but for me, I prefer it as I love being around those kids more than the senior ones. It was so tedious but I found it easier for me.

That's another angle. Older kids are somehow harder to deal with. I guess primary school students aren't that bad after all.

Don't even feint
This was my case
I even thought 21 subject for two classes...so terrible experience

😆😆😆 Who wouldn't become slim with 21 subjects. You tried oo and you will even write lesson plans for them. Very strenuous job but we are happy with the children.

It's good that you find teaching in School interesting and important. That's the main reason you can easily flow in having a favorite subject. Unlike some of us 😂

It’s not easy to be a teacher my sister. I have also taught primary school students before and I know how tedious it was.

Social studies is indeed a cool subject I liked it back then. But not like verbal reasoning 😂

Social studies is indeed a great subject.
Above all, it will teach you how your government and even your family is and should be .

I really enjoyed it back then in school

Social studies is a course that expose people to their social environment. Knowing the culture and other aspect of our world at large.
I also had a terrible experience as a teacher... some schools out of greed wouldn't employ more teachers but rather jampack subjects to one teacher without even additional payment. This was my case...I thought 21 subjects
They were just producing subjects for me without asking if I am good at it or not..but in all, I had my favourites

Don't mind those private schools. They give you work but wouldn't increase your payment.
They do not bother when they jampack huge workload for one teacher. Why won't the teacher faint? Just too much. But in all, there is always our favorites we'd deliver so well.
Thanks for your contribution ma.

Yes... I think it's Integrated science in Junior school but Biology in Senior. I had one wicked black teacher like that. You dare not buy the textbook or do his assignment, you will be punished severely 😅😅

You were teaching 13 subjects 😲. Feels likes you were the only teacher in the school.
I have seen in primary schools a teacher do teach 2 or 3 subjects, but teaching 13 subjects is unbelievable 😳..... hats off to you girl !

You have all the good reasons for teaching social studies!

Hehehe. Here in Nigeria and all private schools, each teacher takes 13 subjects or more in each class. This is how they do it here. In fact, it happens in some public schools too. But there is still some sort of enjoyment in a public school than a private one.

Thanks for sharing dear. Every one has his own taste.

we had a few favourite subjects we'd loved to keep seeing each week

Yeah, like Physics, further maths, English-Language, etc🙂

"what is thanksgiving? Why do we worship God etc?"

🤣😅
Is it still difficult when you think about it now?

While as a primary school class teacher, I took all subjects

It's not easy o

I give my best to explain with real-life examples as my instructional materials which would be easily understood by the pupils.

What I like about this technic is that you can explain better and people can relate to it.

I agree with you, social studies is an interesting topic and it covers a lot of topics.

I enjoyed reading this piece.

Social studies it's a great course and that's why it is being taught from primary to higher institutions because every individual in the country must know their rights as a citizen and how to be the best citizen to their country. It's great to see you want to continue to be a teacher and I pray God helps you when you are impacting knowledge to these students.

Social studies is a very fun and easy subject for me back then, all my teachers were so good at teaching it to us and I think that is because it is life based. When they teach us back then, they easily chip in some beautiful stories that just make the whole thing sink and I loved it.

For someone like you teaching social studies, I can be rest assured that your pupils will do incredibly well at it.

#dreemport brought me here, thank you so much for sharing this with us.

I love Social studies those days in school. My teacher was a very good man and he made us love the subject. Study of man in his physical environment was always what we remember any time we meet that man even after we left school
