The Parade Rehearsal at the Nysc Camp

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

Most of my friends here already know I am in camp performing my duty of serving my father's land, which means I am a Nigerian Corper. Today marks it 16 days I have been in the orientation camp and it makes me happy knowing there are just a few days to the end while I return home for some weeks before resuming to my place of primary assignment for the remaining 11 months.

Activities had started right from day one where soldiers were assigned to different platoons with each platoon consisting of Corp members. There are 10 platoons and corpers were given their platoon numbers of which I fall into number 4. In each platoon, we have officers/instructors and commandants who are in charge of directing us and ensuring we are involved in different activities like marching, drumming, those in the Red Cross group, Man O war, OBS (Orientation Broadcasting Service) etc.

The swearing-in ceremony where Corp members were sworn in and officially called Corpers instead of Prospective Corpers has been done. The governor, commissioner for police, and other guests came to honour the day for us. It was an amazing moment to be sworn in officially. After the event, the next activity kick-started. The parade rehearsals had started over a week ago and later today, we would be doing the inter-platoon competition. In the video, it was the last rehearsal we had where number 1-10 platoons were marching as the band were giving them sweet sound to be aligned accordingly. I was part of the parade before but was removed by my platoon commandant. He didn't give room for a second chance or even tried to correct me but was too aggressive and quick to remove me and a few members. He expected us to grab something he hasn't taught us, he was just too angry which I didn't like.

Of course, I was super excited because it meant I wouldn't be engaging in strenuous activities but to be a part of Platoon 11. This platoon is invisible but it is their way of classifying those not marching as we are called real Otondos (this term means fools in the Nysc slang). I don't care, since no one stresses me, I am good to go. Lol

I hope you enjoyed the parade rehearsal and how the bands did their best too.

Images are originally mine.

Thanks for your time on my blog.

All those activities at camp is one of the main things I dread about nysc (the other is been posted to one dangerous village in the north). I don't just have strength for all those their military drills and dealing with aggressive soldiers that left their empathy at the barracks, maybe I will just ditch camp after all 😅 what state were you posted to?

I feel like you are in a prison. If I were in your place I might fly away from there. I can't do so much physical hard work. But it's a good thing when you start to enjoy it. In fact, you don't have any escape way of it😅😅. !LOL

Ohh heya 😃 sorry about that but it's also good as it will safe you from unnecessary stress.

I was in platoon 1 during my own time, it's both stressful and fun though.
Congratulations in advance as you will soon be out of camp.

Salute to our Corper shun, 😊 little by little you guys have less than a week to go.

My favorite part of the camping activities was the early morning drills as they used to make me very active and alert throughout the day.

Enjoy yourself, have fun and I wish you the best.

Hahaha. The first few days, I was enjoying it until I got tired of it, instead I preferred morning lectures even if I fall asleep 😆😆

Nigerians make National Service look so cool. I like how it’s a camp for you guys. I’ve read a lot of interesting stories about it here on Hive.

I still get surprised how you guys do not go for camp before the normal service. Though it's fun but with lots of cumbersome activities

Ah well, Ghana is a wonderful place.

I don’t doubt that it must be stressful just as it is fun. Anything with the word “camp” attached to it is stressful.😅

Oh.so nice to see the parade session. All dressed in white, so unique. The commandant seems to be too strict ro give you another chance. That's bad. But also Good!! only in such camping one learns to share and care. Happy stay my dear friend.

In 11 months there will be a bundle or even ocean of knowledge and discipline which you will get from this camp. I am sure. Good luck with your journey.
