LOH #157 ~ How people misunderstand me. The story of my life.

People easily misunderstand you and your lifestyle which would make you feel bad sometimes, but one thing I have learnt is to ignore whatever they say and focus on who I am truly. You know that situation where people have known and see how you live your life, especially in a good way and when you try to seek help explaining your predicament, they start to give that unbelieving expression because they think you can't or shouldn't be experiencing such. They already scan you and feel nothing should bother you with what you have enjoyed in life.

This is the story of my life and what I am facing all the time.

One thing most people I have met misunderstand about me is that I have everything and therefore, do not need anything. You know that idea that they think you have billions of naira in your account, whereas you don't and when you meet them jokingly to assist you, they decline saying you already have money and do not need any again.

The fact that I don't post my problems on WhatsApp status or anywhere, and tell people what I am going through doesn't mean I don't need help either. We all need help in all areas of life but when it comes to people misunderstanding your point and making it seem as if your life should be good on all sides, it becomes a problem. The best thing is just to ignore them, and find the right people who will understand you and be willing to help you.

My siblings know and understand my situation. I don't even need to explain myself before they will believe me for who I am and be ready to help. This is more reason I choose to go to them rather than meeting people because no matter how much you try explaining to them, some will never believe you.

There are times I have reached out to people close to me for help and what they will tell me is that they don't believe I am going through such moments and they know I don't need money since I have enough. If I have enough money, would I come to you for help? This is what I have experienced many times and all I do is laugh and remember that my siblings are there, why am I stressing myself over those who chose not to believe me but think otherwise? It's painful but life moves on. I still appreciate God though!

This doesn't make me stop rendering help to this set of people when I am capable.

People will say, I don't believe you are going through this.

I am someone who doesn't show what I am going through on the outside. Even when I am sad, I smile and act as if nothing is happening. I prefer to cry myself out in my room and rub my eyes as if nothing happened when I am outside. I don't know how to beg or ask for something except I ask in the hope of returning later because I know that people are going through their dilemmas.

The first time I tried begging on my WhatsApp status which was some years ago, I even did that jokingly, I got a reply immediately from my sister who told me to bring the request down. I had to do that and ever since then, I never do such. I would rather meet my siblings for help than meet someone who would think I shouldn't be going through such because they misunderstood me.

They see me as someone who shouldn't be worried at all because they think I have everything. Is that even possible? When I say I need something, they tell it to my face — "I know you aren't going through such. You of all people? I trust you." What do you expect me to say again?

The last time I met a neighbour who was doing okay for help. I urgently needed the money that day and felt he could help me. I even wanted to borrow while I return at a specified time but the response I got shocked me and made me conclude not to ask for help from people but to meet my own family. He said he knew I had money and that I just wanted to mock his present situation. Why would someone say that? He believes that since I am working online, earning in dollars and do not talk about my problems feel I am okay and do not need help financially.

Knowing that my siblings would always come through for me every time I go to them has given me that assurance that even if people don't help but misunderstand me, I am safe.

People shouldn't think everyone is doing okay just because they aren't sharing their problems with anyone. This kind of people already know how life is and only depend on a few sets of kind ones who they can easily go to and they would be helped.

It's a common misunderstanding to many which also happens to me sometimes...
But what's disappointing is when you badly need some help, but people refuse to because they think you are capable enough to solve your own problems.
They never know that we are just humans and sometimes broke as well, lol.

Exactly. We are humans and can go through some difficult moments but they won't understand you thinking you have enough and cannot go broke. It's disheartening and one should just learn to accept things and believe help will come anyway, anyhow.

I truly understand this point it is like you have said my mind on the matter, but I wonder if they do believe that everyone has problems no matter where you come from or the kind of work you are doing

Have also had similar experience 😔at a point I was like how do people just predict someone is financially bouyant...if anyone is willing to help me or assist me financially am always open to receive but nevertheless my siblings are also there to help even if not at that particular time I know they will never disappoint me.

I do say money is not always enough. Even if you have enough, you are still willing to receive when they give you but for someone to start thinking you don´t need money is not fair. Thank God for my siblings who are always there.

It's like they see you as human who doesn't experience any hurdle in life that even if you do, it will just be nothing coz you can already solve it on your own. I mean, yeah, but, even not th4 financial support or just a moral support will be a huge help too. Like some encouraging words maybe instead of saying this and that. We are only humans, we all go through the same problems, we also feel hopeless at times and stress too. And any support from those people who we value the most is really a huge help already. I hope they realize that too

You definitely understood my point here. Even if it is not financial support, moral support will do but people just conclude that all is going well for you and you don´t need to go through some situations. I think this misunderstanding is coming for ladies than guys, so long you are able to take care of yourself with the little you have, they feel you have everything.

Well, too bad for them because your life will continue to go fine without their help hehe.

Exactly. If they refuse to help, it doesn´t stop me from existing. Ladies face this kind of situation a lot but still, it doesn´t make us stop doing our best and ignoring whatever people say. Thank you.

I believe it is because some people who have money behave like they don't. I have met people like that.

The fact that one looks good on the outside and chooses to be happy all the time despite the challenges of life, doesn't mean the person doesn't have problems. We are humans, no matter how wealthy one maybe there are days that one would have to seek for help. I think it is unwise for anyone to think some people have everything and as such they don't need support.

Exactly. People feel you don´t need any support merely looking at your outward appearance and seeing you are always happy but deep inside you, there is something making you sad but you choose not to let that weigh you down but people take it for granted and think otherwise for you.

This is relatable. Other people think that we are capable of solving all our problems and we don't need any help from anyone. But we're just human, we also sometimes need help from others. That's why sometimes, even if I'm going through hard times in life, I prefer to keep quite than say it to others because they won't believe if I tell them about my situation. It's really tough when you're on your own but trying to overcome every hard situations with the help of God.
