My Uncle wasn't smart enough. Fake news gone wrong.

While reading the topic for this last edition for this week, I smiled because the time to narrate this incident is here. But before then, I also spread fake news some days ago which was embarrassing to me in the end. Sincerely, I have never been involved in spreading fake news until it is verified because I detest being insulted, so I stay in my lane.
I have heard much fake news from bloggers and many people online and I wonder why on earth would they spread such hypertensive news online. But one of their aims is to generate traffic to their blogs or perhaps most of them are being paid to spread it. Who knows? But that shouldn't make you not verify something before sharing it because this is a digital world and everything seems to go viral within a twinkle of an eye.
It happened that we were waiting for our final year results to be out so we all would get ready for our clearance. This last Sunday after service, a lady came to meet me to ask if I have seen my results or graduating list since she has seen hers. She was happy her name was on the graduating list and I congratulated her and hope mine too will be best.
I got home to post on my status that the English department had seen their list while Education hasn't without confirming first, but only relied on firsthand information. A few minutes later, my course representative sent a DM asking where I got such information from. I boldly told her a friend from church had seen hers. After some minutes, she sent me a message. Here is it 👇
Reading that, I was embarrassed and had to delete it immediately before many people would view it. That was my first time doing that and would be my last.
My Uncle wasn't smart enough to fake his kidnap as that was his way to extort money from the family. This guy caused it himself when he was supposed to be serious with his life but wasn't focused. He is over thirty now and I can't point out something achievable in his life. He is always finding different means to collect money from the family and would come up with lies to cover himself up. Thank God for the wise and smart Aunts I have.
One of my Aunts even partnered with him on a business so he could have something worth doing but he deceived her and ran away for years. After many years, he showed his face and he was sad seeing me and my siblings doing fine today, whereas he has nothing. In his mind, he would be like “these are the children I took care of while they were little, now, they are fairing well today”.
One thing about him is that he is so lazy but wants to eat. He is living a fake life and deceiving everyone. This day, my aunt in Ibadan got a call from someone that my uncle had been kidnapped and they are asking for a ransom.
I was in school when the news spread to my hometown. My younger brother called me that night and explain to me. The next thing was for me to start cracking up with laughter because I know my uncle was lying. My aunt that was called quickly believed the lies, but everyone including my grandma did not believe a thing about it.
When one of my aunts who is a lecturer at the University of Benin heard it, she quickly said she has no money at all, so no one should bother her, not even someone like my uncle.
That was how everyone took the news to be a fake one while we keep waiting for another breaking news 😂😂😂
After some days, someone told us he saw this uncle working on the farm. Even his girlfriend confirmed he has been at home and nothing was wrong. Perhaps my uncle didn't plan his kidnapping well, by sharing his plans with his girlfriend but we already know what was going on. 😅
Ever since then, my uncle didn't call or show up because of the disgrace he put himself into. I told my siblings that this guy wasn't smart enough because we were smarter than him and besides, he lost his trust in us for a long time ever since we knew his lies, deceit, fake life etc.
At least before you share any news online, it should be 100% verified so you don't cause someone his or her death especially when such a person is hypertensive.
That was how I got another fake news that one of the famous Nollywood actors named Osita Iheme was dead. I was in my room already crying because the news was being shared as a real one. I had to post on my status as a question asking if it was real or not. When I got many replies that it was fake, I stopped crying and wished it was never real.
Spreading fake news could cause many things to others and also could be risky for the posters. So, let all information be verified first before bringing them to others.

This is a serious issue yet funny. I was reading and laughing. Though I don't condole any form of fake news and as the class representative back then, I understand how fake news do upset the rep and everyone coming to their DM to ask for confirmation.. I'm glad things didn't happen the way he said it.
Serious issue my brother! One needs to really verify first before publishing anything to another. Thanks for stopping by.
You're welcome
Haa!
Princess 😂😂, you also spread the news? Lolz
Glad you retraced ur steps...I understand, it can happen to one...I did one last week too 😂🤦🤦
When I discovered it was fake, I went round replying those people I sent the messages telling them, it's fake 😂
Fake news has done so much wrong..
Honestly, verification is needed
😂😂 That time, you will feel like people cannot trust you again. Verification is needed indeed.
Thanks ma.
My dear
Shame on me 🤦🤦😂
Omo! The fake news saga between you and course rep was awkward (let me not use embarrassing). I know you speedily rushed to delete it from status. You were lucky for not having GB users on your list. Na that one for Worst 🤣
Some go still have that GB WhatsApp oo 😅
Thank God I was online to know the real thing and quickly deleted it.
Or else, I might be entertained by many students in my department 😂😂
Truly truly, fake news can cause serious damage if care is not taken, especially in sensitive situations.
I've also happened to share fake news but just like yours, it was on my WhatsApp status and it wasn't intentional. It did stirr up some disturbance but since then I've learnt to always verify any information that reaches me before I consider sharing to anyone.
Yes. We need to verify whatever news before sharing out to people because some can be so funny at lambasting you with words and insults.
Damn 😂 I have been laughing through out this article, that your uncle is really something else, he even failed at kidnapping himself 🤣
He failed oo 😅😅😅
Nonsense.... He no smart at all
Your uncle no try at all. God forbid but if such a thing happens for real then nobody will take his words serious.
You are right. He shouldn't have gone that far to collect money from the family.
the point is that we really have to check the truth of the news that we are going to spread, because otherwise we only endanger ourselves with the fake news that we spread.
You are right. We are only endangering ourselves with such fake news.

Omo I can imagine how embarrassing that must've been. I'm glad to hear you learned from your experience.
Ahh 😂 that your uncle's case is funny oo, I couldn't stop laughing. Imagine if he had his way and extorted money from the family. Hmm! Thank God sha.
Jeez! Osita iheme? Dead ke? Lol, I didn't hear that news oo. I would've been just as sad as you were if I did. I don't just get why people would spread such fake news about people's death 🤦.
Eeyah... He had no idea who he was dealing with. Its funny the length some people will go to. At least it ended well for you guys...
Thank you for sharing this with us.
I laughed all true. This is precisely the reason I don't even want to be the first to share any knees. I'm not going to win an award for that. I keep it to myself until it's out there. Especially in this era, fake news is very dangerous.
The bible advises us to be swift about hearing, but slow about speaking. With the preponderance of false information available, we do well to listen, but be ing slow to forward information on unless e can verify its accuracy.
It is always good to verify any information we receive before sharing. Thanks for sharing your experience.

This is why I dont always believe in news just spreading around the town HAHA. I cant believe what will happen if you believe at your uncle. 🤣
Good practice to verify things before becoming part of it. In the world of blockchain there is a saying that says: "Everything is a scam until proven otherwise". This in relation to cryptocurrency projects that promise to be the rocket to the moon. Excellent friend dreemer.
Haha this is actually funny haha 😂😂😂😂😂...
How can he do such thing huh at his own age rofl😆😆😆😆😆😆
I think everyone has tripped over this one and posted something not verified @princessbusayo. Your uncle was just being lazy and not wanting to work, that's why he wouldn't trust you any more. But it rarely goes well for those kinds of people.
