The boys decided to make breakfast for us.

One of the things I try to curtail in my family is apportioning some chores to the girls alone, like they are meant to be in the kitchen, doing the sweeping and the dishes while they only become supervisors around the whole compound, they sleep and when food is ready, they are the first to bring plates to be served. I have never agreed to this idea as I love to make sure everyone, as long as you are part of the family and also love to eat good food, you must be listed in the list of those doing chores, I have never left anyone out of this whenever I am at home.

This is a mentality the society has ingrained in everyone's mind, so, the girls should be in the kitchen and doing all other things. This same thing happened in the house I lived in. The guys disagreed they were not ever going to be washing the toilets because it is the girl's job to do that. I made them understand that every one of us came from a different place to rent a place and since we are paying our rent individually, we have to wash the toilets and bathrooms because we are using them together. I even gave the option that they could appoint someone like a cleaner to do it for them while they are paid instead of refusing not doing anything in the house. They never did the washing neither did they pay any cleaner for it till I left the place but it shouldn't be so. That was something I couldn't control because the landlady couldn't do that too.

This is my family and I still have a say. I never condoned any rubbish among the guys in the house as I made sure they were given tasks to do together with the girls in the house. My rule is that: if you don't work, you are not eating in the house. They respect me for that and that is a plus to me too. This is something I will apply when I have my children, they must be treated equally whether you are a boy or girl.

So to come back to the focus of the day, we woke up very early this morning as usual; 6 am and did our morning devotion. I took them to the topic titled "The fruit of the Holy Spirit". We finished an hour later, went into my room and did my devotion as I never missed that. It was during the process I heard my people deciding on who to make breakfast. The girls shouted that they were tired of cooking and that the boys should take the spot this morning. My aunt laughed and tried to calm the situation.

I already finished my devotion and went to meet them outside. They were still on the matter of who would cook and who wouldn't until it was past an hour. I noticed Dad was hungry and observed the situation. Before these guys would conclude on who and what to cook, Dad would be starving. I was here watching the whole drama while enjoying the show. I have a big bread I bought for myself and thought if no one would do something, there would be bread for me because I planned to only cook for dinner since they could still do something themselves instead of depending on me all the time. I gave Dad some bread with butter which he made some tea for himself and ate.

After some while, my cousin became hungry and volunteered to do the cooking and my brother had to tag along. They planned on cooking concoction rice and things were becoming interesting as I was curious to see what they would prepare and how it would taste. I told them that if the food wasn't delicious, I wouldn't eat it but settle for my bread.

It turned out that the food was amazing even though there was no fish/meat/egg. My cousin refused to buy eggs for us, no problem, I will manage it for now 😆

I am still finding more tasks for them to engage with for today as they (my cousin and brother) are looking for ways to run away from the house but no, I am smarter than them and they won't refuse when I call. Who will give them money when I am leaving? 🤣
