Just as Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs, it is a theory of human motivation that is often used to explain factors that influence the behaviours of humans, including satisfaction. This theory says that five basic human needs must be fulfilled to reach or attain self-actualization, or make humans realize their full potential.

These basic needs are;

  • Physiological Needs: These include the common basic needs of humans such as food, water, shelter, etc.
  • Safety Needs: which includes stability, and protection from danger.
  • Love and Belonging Needs: These include the need to socialize and interact with friends, and to love.
  • Esteem Needs: includes the need for self-esteem, self-respect and to be recognized by others.
  • Self-Actualization Needs: includes the need for personal growth, creativity, and achievement.

Satisfaction can be linked to the hierarchy of needs by Maslow in the sense that every individual who has their needs met at each level or stage is more likely to feel satisfied. A person who has enough food, water, and shelter at home would feel more satisfied than one who doesn't have any and is hungry. A homeless man who doesn't have food to eat when he is hungry cannot be satisfied until his needs are met.

At every stage of our lives, we are meant to feel satisfied with our achievements or accomplishments. I feel satisfied when I can eat and be filled. I feel satisfied when I have people who love me, especially my family, knowing that I can be welcomed anytime into their arms without feeling worried or bothered.

Satisfaction is attained when you have met your goals or done something fulfilling for the day, week, or month. I always feel satisfied as a blogger and writer whenever I make a post, get it published, and get some comments to encourage me.

Many times, humans are not always satisfied because they are not contented. Someone who is always comparing another's progress to his can never be satisfied because he or she wants to be there too. Even Maslow said that human needs are insatiable — this means we can never be satisfied no matter what we achieved because we always want more.

The truth is that remembering to always be grateful for what you have rather than complaining about what you do not have is a great satisfaction because you have reached a level where things do not bother you, but having the belief that you can always have what you wish or desire if you work for it.

When we compare ourselves to others and belittle ourselves because of what they have achieved when we haven't reached half of it could weigh us down, leading us to a lack of satisfaction and this is something that leads to frustration and in the end, you start thinking of the wrong ways to get what they have which is always a wrong move.

Though it's good to want or desire more just as in the case of the theory because as we achieve a level, we move to the next level and it keeps going but it doesn't mean you should compare or feel you do not have it all. Being satisfied with what you have presently is a great way to enjoy life more.

There was a time in my life I felt I had nothing because I couldn't get things for myself. I was limited to requesting from my parents for my needs and I felt unsatisfied as I needed to have something to do for myself too without disturbing them. Though, it took a long time before I became an independent lady and can achieve some things on my own without having to disturb anyone for my needs.

I derived satisfaction to a level when I met Hive, started earning and getting to eat what I like, and do what I want because there is money. There are things I have bought with my money that make me proud and feel satisfied owning them. But this doesn't make me stop, I keep desiring more but I never allowed the act of lack of contentment to take over me because I know it may affect how I think and live my life.

I am satisfied with what I have today and still working ahead for the future to keep getting satisfied and feeling happy within me.

So, I believe that when one has scaled through the level of getting worried about what others have and thinking they have none, of course, you have enough and should be grateful for those things in your possession, you will come to live in satisfaction which in turn brings happiness to you.

Thanks for your time on my blog.

Super agree with this @princessbusayo Whenever I feel unsatisfied and do start feeling so little and low I had to close my eyes, stop at whatever I am doing, breathe and eventually say my prayers of gratefulness. Works big time, all the time!

Yes, there is this big feeling when you have to worry not and just decide to be grateful for all you have. It definitely works because you will feel so confident and positive that all will be well no matter what. Thanks for agreeing with me on this. I appreciate your time coming over, @chichi18

My economics teacher in highschool always stressed the fact that humans need are insatiable and as such, there would always be longing for more.

Just like you said, we should always be grateful for our successes and put more effort to reach our goals. This way, we won't be comparing ourselves with others.

This was nicely written🤗

That is the fact about humans because we keep longing for more but the ability to be grateful and contented is all that makes us satisfied. Thank you for reading.

Greetings @princessbusayo 👋🏼 Definitely when we reach a goal after having made a lot of effort this is a reason for satisfaction and joy, what a joy that you felt this when you started in hive.

On the other hand we noticed that the first image you used does not have the corresponding fonts, we invite you to place it, because in hive this is very important, as this publication says.

Thanks for sharing your opinion on the topic, have a happy day 🌞.
