Without hard work, talent is useless.

There was a year my school introduced a programme and it was a compulsory course for all students. The course is all about skill training and there were different kinds of skills to choose from. Unluckily for me, I couldn't find a skill that suit me while my friends already chose one that they already knew of. One chose cake baking while the other chose hat making. Just because I didn't want to be left out or behind, I also chose hat making.

The one that chose hat making knew such since she is a fashion designer and could work on a machine but I couldn't. When the training started, my mind wasn't there and my friend would concentrate while I was busy on my phone. Till the end of the training, I never had interest because it wasn't what I wanted but I just went for it since I didn't have a choice.

My friend worked hard even during the night with assignments they gave us and I would beg her to do mine for me. Perhaps I could have understood better if I also focused and worked hard on it. It was easier for my friend because she is a talented fashion designer and she would always work when she has no lectures. Many times, students would give her clothes to sew for them and this made her know how to make them easily but I found it uninterested and tough for me.

When we are talking about talent and hard work, we need to retrace back to the story in the Bible, of the master who gave his servants talents before going on a journey. One thing we should understand is that both terms are different. Being talented and not working hard to be known or conversant with the work is useless, likewise channelling your energy through hard work in the wrong way could be effort wasted in the end.

The one that was given five talents went and worked hard for five more, altogether had ten talents. The one with two worked hard and added another two. The last one didn't work hard to double the one talent with him and it was wasted.

Perhaps I might still not get the hat making even if I worked hard on it because it wasn't something I knew about or something I could say I want to learn because right from the beginning, I didn't show interest in it. It would be channelling my effort in the wrong way.

When you put your talent to work, you will be known and also be able to understand more in-depth about the skill or talent you have. Talented as a singer, if you do not listen to songs, practice and train your voice, there is no way you will be able to succeed.

For someone like me, I am talented in teaching and this was how a friend asked how I was able to find the job easier and make students understand better than her. Same thing with my writing skill. I have been writing right from a young girl and I worked hard to know some rudiments about writing and it is working for me today.

Being on a platform like Hive, if I never worked hard through engagement, make quality posts and also be able to know how to proofread, edit, format with styles etc, my writing skill is useless for me.

Egbonn.png

Just this afternoon, I and the person I brought to Hive commended my effort that he also wants to be like me because I am always active and writing every day on Hive. Only if he would be like me too but I smiled and told him it's a gradual process because I didn't start this one day but through hard work, I have been able to get to this stage in my life.

If one is talented and not working hard to fine-tune such skill, he or she would find it difficult to continue with it unless one works hard to help his or her talent succeed.

Thanks for your time on my blog.

Very nice write up but I think that talent is there already inside a person that it's already a gift from Above

Yea, it´s a gift from above but if one does not work with it to achieve the best, it will be useless just like the parable of the talents I narrated in my post.
Thank you for reading.

Wow this are all simple Grammer's but in my head they are big lol 🤣🤣🤣, well I understand perfectly the story about the talent in the bible Lol and I understand your point perfectly...

You learning hat making was just to join the crowd not because you had the talent right from the onset and later on you couldn't make anything of it...

As for me I think they both work hand in hand, talent without hard work is a wast, even if hard work can take you places, channeling it in the wrong direction will still bring you back to the starting point...

All we need to do is to know what to do and how to do it, for talent, utilize it completely that it becomes part of you and if you don't want to discover your talent then work hard to achieve something grate and it will be better either way....

😂😂 I am glad the story is well-explanatory enough even with the Big grammar. Lol

This is very true and you got it right. I just wanted to be where my friends were then and that coupled with me not showing interest in it.

Both talent and hard work works hand in hand together. We must work hard even where we are talented on and that would make it more easier to understand many aspects about the gift.

Thank you for reading and putting out such a wonderful comment.

Hello there! I hope you're doing well.
I totally agree with you, talent without hard work is useless. It is nice that you linked this topic to the Bible. If the lazy servant had worked had he would've added to the 1 talent his master gave him.

Thanks for sharing.

Yea, I am doing well. How about you?
Yea, my mind went straight to the story in the Bible and I saw it goes well with today´s topic. Thank you for reading.

I really enjoyed this writeup, the bible illustration is also a good one, truly all talent needs hard work in order to achieve success.

Hard work should not be avoided because it is what makes one achieve a good result. Thank you, Glory for stopping by.

I love how you backed up your point with a biblical reference.

Your points are valid, it is true that not working hard even though being talented will bring not while putting effort into the wrong things will also amount to waste.

Working hard with whatever gift we have will definitely bring goodness if we believe in ourselves.

Believe is the key even while we are working hard to make the best. Do you know I never believed I could make a hat then? If I had believed and put extra work into it, I might have achieved something.

We need to be focused on the steps needed to make our dreams a reality, not just what it will feel like when we get there.

Exactly. This is why working hard on the steps is required and needed. Thank you.

Though we might be talented, but if we do not build our talents for the better it might not profit us much. That parable in the bible you gave instance with is a very strong message, the master gave them talents each according to their abilities that was what the bible say, one thing I keep wondering is, how does the guy with five reached that level of five? I believe he didn't just start with the ability to make five Talent, probably it was one like the first guy but he coupled it with hard work, he gave himself no rest until he sharpened his talent until it became a weapon that sustained his life and career. he didn't just want to called a talented guy but a talented guy with a difference

Indeed, a talented guy with a difference. I love that word and this is possible when we work extra hard to achieve our aims. It is indeed good to work really hard if we want to be known or achieve the best and this will definitely be a bonus to us as we would be wanted everywhere if we are delivering the best work. Thank you so much for your comment.

Without hardwork talent is really useless, you end up seeing people without that particular talent who are hard-working doing better than you.

That is it. We shouldn't relent but keep going with our talent through hard work.

No matter how talented we are, if we don't strive harder it will just be a waste. Though it may seem difficult at first, consistency is key too.
