Even the rich cry, even the best players lose! The defeat at Anfield was one of the lowest points of Lionel Messi's Legendary career. He could barely do anything as he watched his team get destroyed.

As a Barcelona fan I was devastated too, it seemed unreal that we bottled a first leg three goal lead to lose the semi final tie to Liverpool so this famous image quickly came to mind when I saw today's topic was "heartbreak". You can see the reference photo here

And here are a few steps while doing this sketch

I started with the sketch to outline the figures using a 5B graphite pencil...

I went on to block in the darkest values with charcoal, this makes it easier to get the mid tones later...

Then I started working on the figure with graphite pencils, slowly bringing out each area of the image simultaneously...
