A Long Time Ago... When I Downloaded Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes

Images are my screenshots from the game
Hello, there.
I've been collecting Star Wars figures since Episode III Revenge of the Sith came out. So naturally I gravitated toward a game in which you collect characters by amassing shards of them. But I also really wanted to unlock Darth Jar Jar, the meme and fan-theory favorite that Disney also teases sometimes in Easter Eggs. Most characters' abilities are named based on things they've said in media such as "Never tell me the odds" for Han Solo and "Take a seat" for Mace Windu. But one of Darth Jar Jar's abilities is named "Meesa Gonna Hurt Yousa". As George Lucas, himself, famously once stated, "Jar Jar is the key to all of this." I don't really like that he has a double-bladed lightsaber like Darth Maul but it does sort of match the theory that he is secretly very acrobatic. His design also gives off Darth Revan vibes.

For those that aren't familiar, here is my copy of Darth Revan. He was a Sith Lord from the time of the Old Republic, thousands of years before the Skywalker saga. In that time, Revan was a Jedi and fell disillusioned with the Republic after the Mandalorian Wars. He fell to the dark side, taking up the armor of a fallen Mandalorian warrior. In the end, he redeemed himself by defeating Darth Malak and returned to the light, hence the different color lightsabers.
Do you see the resemblance? As much as I want Darth Jar Jar, I probably won't be able to get him without paying real money, which I won't. EA will have to try harder than that. I'm still mad at them for what they did to Star Wars Battlefront for the PlayStation 4!

There are separate campaign modes. So far, what I have playable are Light Side Battles with their respective characters, Dark Side for your evil playthrough, and Cantina Battles which can use both good and evil characters.

Once you finish a chapter, Hard Mode for that chapter unlocks. Each of the harder stages reward different character shards. Cantina Battles don't have hard mode and cost more energy but every mission offers shards and these missions draw from a separate energy pool. Character Shards are also given as rewards for achievements like using certain characters or their abilities, defeating certain types of enemies, and other completionist goals.

You start off with Anakin Skywalker and a young Ahsoka Tano. Many achievements along your journey reward Darth Vader shards so he is unlocked relatively quickly too.

Earning more shards let's you upgrade the star ⭐ level. I was waiting for a powerful Jedi to come along since my team leader buffs all other Jedi. When I unlocked Mace Windu using one of the games many currencies, I used a yet another currency to buy a Lightspeed Token for him. I 'spent' the token (maybe he ate it?) and now he's max level and my most powerful unit despite still only being 3 star. He is the new team leader since his Jedi buff now outshines Anakin's.

The gameplay is turn-based. I grew up on Final Fantasy so I like this. The missions are based around situations from the storyline so yes, there are space battles too. I am close to unlocking those and already have several different versions of Jedi starfighter along with their respective pilots.

My strongest dark sider is the Fifth Brother, an inquisitor with a double-bladed lightsaber.
The different game scenes are iconic locations and the nostalgic soundtrack reminds me of games like Star Wars Bounty Hunter and the original Battlefront for the PlayStation 2. The game is very addicting, at least for me. The bonus energy I won from quick and early level-ups really extended my playtime. Now that I'm higher level the bonus is more spread out and I'm quickly wasting my game energy while also playing less. I guess this is a good thing!
I've already had a great time so far on this Star Wars version of RAID, even if I can't get Meme Lord of the Sith Darth Jar Jar. Maybe I'll just build a custom figure of him someday.
Are you a Star Wars fan? Who's your favorite character? Would you play this game? I would rather play this than play as The Wizard of Oz' Dorothy in RAID.
Remember, stay civilized 😉
