Straightswords, Greatswords, and Ultra Greats Galore
Hello there, gamers! proto26 is back showcasing more of the awesome weapon finds from Dark Souls II! If you remember from last time, my day-to-day jack of all trades weapon was the Broadsword (+6). This, as far as I was concerned, was the best option I had for my level of progress. Research in the annals of the Dark Souls II wiki has led me to now believe otherwise.
My search for the next superweapon began in the old land of Heide. Few of these Old Knights remain, for I have slain them all. This one in particular dropped his greatsword.
This time-worn relic is of another age and, as such, has little durability (only 30). I have bigger ambitions. I believe there is still another Old Knight hiding on the outskirts of Heide.
How do you like my new look? Honestly it's a bit of a step down from the Drangleic mail and cape.
A big step down actually! However, the Prisoner's Tatters further add an item discovery bonus (on top of the bonus that my Watchdragon Parma and Travelling Merchant Hood give)! Now time to grind! The Tower of Flame bonfire nearby really makes this a convenient spot.
I got it after just a few runs. I was almost afraid that this knight would've run out of respawns before I would get it. This is what it looks like:
I thought it'd be bigger, honestly. Though it does cover my entire face! It has decent attack but also just 30 durability. Maybe I'll upgrade it but probably not. It will sit in my trophy case.
Then I remembered the other denizens of Heide, the Heide Knights themselves! I just call them "the white knights". Very strong with high HP. They used to leave me alone but turned on me once I killed their Dragonrider. But I'm not afraid of them anymore. All it takes to fell one is 3 hits from my Pursuer Ultra Greatsword (+1).
Out of all the knights I had taken out, I had only managed to find 1 of these. It was just sitting in my storage. Time to take it out, wipe the dust off, and upgrade to +6!
It is not that special looking but it packs a punch. A lightning punch. Yes, it deals some lightning damage along with slash damage. Many bosses are apparently weak against lightning. Speaking of bosses, I've since defeated the Skeleton Lords and Executioner's Chariot! And just now...
Look familiar? All Souls games have this boss.
Yup, it was the gargoyles. I must have fought like 6 of them. I don't actually know because I couldn't count them all. I knew there would be at least 2. But then a third one dropped in and it seemed like they just kept on coming for a while. But I managed not to die thanks to my shade companion who soaked up some hits. I just picked off the ones with the lowest health one by one. I haven't checked what kind of weapons this soul offers. Should be interesting.
My new sword kind of looks like this one, the standard Longsword. Except the Heide sword has a longer hilt and longer guards which curve a bit.
This Footsoldier Sword has a nice fancy guard. It is very common and dropped by Hollow Infantry. Merely a collectable at this point and not even a last resort.
Soon I will try my luck again in the great pit at the center of Majula. It's supposed to lead to 2 new areas but I haven't made it deep enough. You're supposed to carefully fall (with the help of the Silvercat Ring) down along the logs but I fell on some false ones that broke. Alas, I died. But at least I was able to nab the lockstone that activates Pharros' Contraption. There are a bunch of those around that reveal hidden rooms and such.
The guy at Gamestop said to prepare to "lose my social life for a few weeks" and possibly "break my controller". However, I have been having a rather pleasant time with this game! Neither of those things have happened. I am already fantasizing about what Dark Souls III will be like. But I get ahead of myself. I still have some 30-odd bosses to deal with in this playthrough of Dark Souls II. I'm glad I decided against buying the first one.
I do not need to beat that game again.
I will never understand how people are patient enough to play this style of game, especially with your last words:
Come on..
I love the game to be honest! And my controllers are still in good condition.
