avatar

Today we had a special day as we have visited one of the ramser site near our area which has an international importance under the ramser convention. Deepor beel is the only ramser site in assam, situated in Guwahati , the capital of Assam. It was declared as ramser site on November 2002. It is a former channel of brahmaputra river , flowing through the heart of Assam. It is spreaded over 4.1 sq km.It is connected to the river Brahmaputra by a set of inflows and outflows. It is also called the oxbow lake because of of the structure that resembles like an oxbow. It also has variety of avian fauna which makes it an ideal spot for bird watching.

This site is about 5-7 km away from where i am residing right now. Recently i joined an organisation under which We were assigned to study the ecological, floral, faunal diversity of the site. Also we were told to collect samples and study the chemical concentrations ( water quality) for the site. This will help us estimate the pollution level of this site. A group of four people were headed to the site and reached the site at around 11 A.M. Today our main reason for the field visit is to find the linkages to the deepor beel. Due to the lack of personal vehicles we had to use the local transportation so it was not possible to visit all the linkages for day 1. To collect the adequate information, we went to the forest department where a personal provided us with all the information about the beel abd the linkage to the beel.

But over time this ramser site is shrinking from it's tital area. . Although the officials told ud that there is no sign of shrinkage and the beel is maintained at 4.1 sq km but the surveys done by various government officials shows the result of shrinkage . This is mainly because of urbanization, damping of municipal wastes to the edge of the site, damping of wastes into the inflowing stream and blocking the connectivity of these streams to the lake.

Deepor beel is known for it's richness in both floral and faunal species. I am particularly assigned to study the fish diversity of the lake. There are over 60 species of fish found which belongs to more than 20 families . Also a wide variety of bird species are found in the beel. This is the reason it is considered as Deepor Beel bird sanctuary.

After consulting with the officials we than headed to decathlon because i wanted to get some clothes for me. While looking for some trousers and shorts we foud something interesting.

This fan was so big that it covered about 20 % of the mall. I've never seen duch big fan before. It was huge.
Today was the day one of our work and have to continuously work for a month to get the desired result. Hope that coming days will pass achieving something new from the study and learning it along the way. It was really a good day.

THANK YOU

I really like the look of this place. Nice nature and not so many people around. Lovely.

Dear @punkblogs, sorry to jump in a bit off topic but may I ask you to support the HiveSQL proposal?
It lost its funding recently and your help would be much appreciated to keep the HiveSQL service free for the Hive community.
You can do it on Peakd, Ecency, Hive.blog or using HiveSigner.

Thank you for your support!
