Have you ever downsized and realized how much stuff you have, and most of these are no longer used on a regular basis?

We plan in moving out from our current two-bedroom place to a smaller one, even a studio unit! The smaller the better, fewer things, less space to keep up the cleaning. A I mentioned in my previous blog, we don’t have a helper anymore and my baby is allergic to our cats, so not having our place fully cleaned every day made him suffer for a few nights now. So we are now in a process of downsizing a lot of our things.

I sent a message on a group chat to see who can drop by at my place to get the items. At first, we planned on selling the stuff but we have so much stuff that I do not have to luxury of time to deal with the buyers and wait on every person to pick up the stuff. To be honest, I was a little upset at first that my partner all of a sudden decided to just get rid of so much stuff yesterday because I could have planned better in distributing the items but we were both stressed looking at our messy place. Who else has six fans at home and still has air conditioning (this was even before the typhoon)? And we don’t even use the other four fans on a regular basis. It was just stuck in the backroom and now that we still don’t have electricity in our condominium because the generator has problems so, we don’t even use any of the fans anymore.

So, we gave away four fans, one of the fans is an industrial fan, my partner decided to donate it to the lobby guards who work for our building, that way they all can use it. Plus, it would be hard to sell because of its price and really giving it to people that we personally know is a lot more rewarding to us. These people had been helping us with different stuff since we lived in our condo.

Random Footwear

We had so many random stuff, baby’s stuff toys, and even toys that he got for Christmas which he won’t be able to play with yet coz it’s way too advanced for his age and we don’t want to keep it in the cabinet for a long time.

Make Ups

I had random make ups that I know I haven't touched since pandemic and I still bought a new one this Christmas just because. Even am already being frugal my my spending compared before and I mostly spend things for my baby now.

Our Version of Bath Tub in the Philippines! 😅

I bought four of these bins since we didn't have tap water, but thankfully the city water truck finally delivered water to our area. So, I disposed of three of the bins and one saved one for my baby's bath. Look, isn't he so cute in his new version of the baby tub! Lol, But even if we have running water, we cannot afford to waste it so thankfully took rinsed off before he got in the bin before I used that water to take a bath.

"Our little community is already six months old now, and we're so glad to have spent six months together with each of you, Hivers! Although we're not celebrating it as fancy as the past celebrations due of the recent onslaught of a super typhoon, we're hoping to celebrate more days, months, and years as a Hive Community. A few years ago, our founder had no idea that a simple hobby of blogging will generate such a lovely community and family. We're glad everything have been working out, and we have no plan on turning back"

Although I didn't managed my time to make some good food because my partner and I were so busy cleaning up and putting way the stuff. And these was all I could afford yesterday...

PXL_20220106_043335299.jpg

I had been craving this since after the typhoon! =D

But wait we have a cake!!! Yay!

PXL_20220106_040016346.jpg

At least my partner baked us something since still we the box of cake mix that we bought for New year but we just a dessert from a bakery so we didn't have to have a lot of dirty dishes, we had canned blueberry sauce in the cabinet. This tells us that we don't mind not eating real food as long as we have some dessert, ehehe.

@sassycebuana and @gwenfinity came first and after a couple of minutes, @cheerupwithjl arrived too. It was really nice to catch up with these amazing people since we haven't seen each of ever since the typhoon and you all know how we love to always gather even just for coffee time.

That is brilliant, I have forever been downsizing and take my stuff to charity shops so that they can sell and make money for their charities.
I have many friends in Cebu and have been helping them get water and materials to rebuild after Odette, such a sad time for so many before Christmas. Bisayans are strong people and will come out of it all stronger. Happy New Year

Walay sapayan, I am from Scotland, but have met many Filipinos over the years, and you are just such a friendly happy group of people, I will always do what I can to help.

Yes, society makes us want all these material possessions, but what do we really need them for?

Have a great weekend.

I tried downsizing before but all my unused and barely used items headed straight to the garbage because they aren't usable anymore :( it's nice Gil that you thought of giving it to others!! 🥺🤗

Well, a lot was also thrown to the garbage, but the ones that can still be used we decided to donate it.

You are truly an amazing person! You giving and donating all this equipment would be such a great help to people who are starting to rebuild. I agree with fewer things being better, more room to move around and it makes the place look much cleaner.

yay again for hitting 6 months with hivecebubloggers! :) that's a cool little bike there. and the doorway gym.. i have 1 at my condo in Q.C. my son tried it but says it feels like it won't hold him. sure, we even screwed in a extra wood piece to hold it up. and he weighs about 100 lbs and i did pullups all the time, even when i was 200lb :P i think he just is lazy to do pullups since its much harder than pushups.

This posts reminds of an old saying that I can no longer remember word for word anymore. It goes something like "We work hard to obtain all the possessions we think will set us free, only to discover we become owned and trapped by our possessions." Of course it's an extreme statement, but there's truth in it. Our family of 4 is about to be living out of a tuk-tuk and 4 suitcases very soon, and I have never felt more liberated in my life. Blessings from my family to your and yours.
