One of the peculiarities and I think also one of the best things here is that each region has its own distinctive, native food, with particular ingredients. Which I think is great and makes the dining experience more than just eating.

Es difícil que alguien pruebe la gastronomía venezolana y no quede encantado con tantos sabores y sazones. La comida de mi país te atrapa el paladar, el estómago y el corazón. Además, te deja pidiendo más.
Una de las peculiaridades y creo que también de las mejores cosas que hay aquí es que cada región tiene su comida distintiva, autóctona, con ingredientes particulares. Lo que creo que es magnífico y hace que la experiencia de comer no sea solo comer.
Por ejemplo, yo me declaro fans número uno de la comida Zuliana. En realidad de la comida la general... Sí, me fascina comer 😁
Recently some friends who are from there told us about this preparation "arepas cabimeras" (from a region of Zulia called Cabimas) and we immediately decided to get together to make them... And well, so that the cost would be cheaper 😅
According to what they tell us, it is part of the fast food there and you can get it in those stalls where they also sell other fast food like hamburgers, hot dogs, pepitos, patacones, etc.
They are really easy to make. The only thing I think is that there are some things that are good to cook with time. Let me explain.
Hace poco unos amigos que son de allá nos hablaron de esta preparación "arepas cabimeras" (por una región del Zulia llamada Cabimas) y decidimos inmediatamente juntarnos varios para hacerlas... Y bueno para que el gasto saliera más barato 😅
Según nos cuentan ellos, es parte de la comida rápida de allá y se puede conseguir en esos puestos donde venden también otro tipo de comidas rápidas como hamburguesas, perros calientes, pepitos, patacones, etc.
De verdad son sencillas de hacer. Lo único que creo que hay cositas que es bueno cocinar con tiempo. Les explico.
This arepa is a large arepa that is fried and, after it is ready, without opening it, it is just cut into small pieces on a plate and on top of it you add all the ingredients you want. We add the most basic ones, so to speak:
- 500 g meat for larding
- 1/2 chicken breast
- 250 g cabbage
- 2 medium carrots
- 4 eggs (1 for each arepa)
- 300 g grated white cheese
- 200 g ham
- Tomato sauce and mayonnaise to taste
Esta arepa es una arepa grande que se fríe y luego que está lista, sin abrirla, solo se parte en pedacitos encima de un plato y encima se le echan todos los ingredientes que uno quiera. Nosotros le echamos los más básicos, por decirlo así que son:
- 500 g carne para mechar
- 1/2 pechuga de pollo
- 250 g de repollo
- 2 zanahorias medianas
- 4 huevos (1 para cada arepa)
- 300 g de queso blanco rallado
- 200 g de jamón
- Salsa de tomate y mayonesa al gusto

The day before preparing the arepas we bought everything and I prepared the meat to lard with the seasonings I had on hand. We did the same with the chicken.
El día antes de preparar las arepas compramos todo y yo preparé la carne para mechar con los aliños que tenía a mano. Igualmente, hicimos con el pollo.
The same day we would eat, and while the arepas were frying, we cut the cabbage and grated the carrot, boiled the eggs, grated the cheese, cut the ham into small pieces and prepared a spectacular cilantro and onion guasacaca.
El mismo día que comeríamos, y mientras se freían las arepas, cortamos el repollo y rallamos la zanahoria, se sancocharon los huevos, se ralló el queso, cortamos en trocitos el jamón y prepararé una guasacaca de cilantro y cebolla espectacular.
