The Marching Competition: Entry for the Shadow Contest #232

(Edited)

The street in front of the regent office was packed with people. Those people stood by both sides of the street. They were all waiting for the marching contestant to start.

The regent stood in one side of the street holding a flag. Then, he waved the flag, this was a sign of the marching competition among junior high schools in my town was started.

The spectators cheered up and clapped their hand as the first marching team took their firs step. The marching team saluted the regent and the jury as they continue walking forward.

It was two o'clock, the sun light was hot. People seem did not care about the heat. I couldn't help but noticed the peculiar shadow of the team. For me, the shadow looked like a bottle opener, or a screw driver.

The first team passed by, and followed by the second one. Team after team performed their march with different variation and style. They also yelled and sang patriotic song to boost their own spirit on the start of their 8 kilometers march. Eight kilometers was decided to be the length of the route to be taken because it represent the month of Indonesian independence, i.e. 17th of August 1945.

As it got more crowded at the starting point, I have took my motor cycle and drove somewhere else with my kid to see the march more clearly. My kid was really excited.

A while later, when I got back to the starting point, the march was over. All the students had already got back to their schools or home. I saw some students who were boarding a back of truck to get home. Safe drive, please.

Thank you Melinda. I was more interested in the shadows than the marching. I don't know why 🤣
