Trying The Recipe of Bolu Sakura Sponge Cake

After months of making sweet buns, my wife tried a new recipe she got from the internet. It's a cake recipe of Bolu Sakura or sakura caramel sponge cake. Here is the photo of the cake we made (well, she made, I assisted and took photos).

To make the cake, she started heating about 400 grams of sugar to make the caramel. She put the sugar in a frying pan(we don't actually have special utensils for making the cake). She heated on a small fire for quite some time, until the sugar melted.

She also added some water to the sugar to make it more liquid. Then she switched off the stove and waited until the caramel became cool. Next, she poured the caramel into a serving bowl of wheat flour. She mixed the liquid caramel with 400 grams of wheat flour in a serving bowl.

Finally, the dough mixed well. The next step (which I forgot to take photos) is to pour a bit of the dough into the little molding cups. Here are the photos of the little molding cups we have.

After all the twelve cups filled with the dough, she then steamed them for about twenty minutes.bolusakura12.jpg

She put out all the cakes from the molding cups, and tada we had the sakura caramel sponge cakes ready.

We had about 26 caramel sponge cups made. All went perfectly even though this was the first time my wife tried it. The taste is sweet because of the caramel. We could have these cakes for dessert and coffee.
