Today I share some recent dollar bin record finds, mostly soul and disco and related stuff.. Check it out!

Barry White
"I've Got So Much To You Give"
1973

Barry White may be the king of orchestral soul ballads, one who has put out a ton of records over the years, and who is known for his voice that dips into LFO territory. Here he is doing an eight minute rendition of "Standing in the Shadows of Love" by The Four Tops, a 60s Motown group. The song has an extended introduction, barely recognizable and laden with some pizzicato strings. This record also has probably his biggest hit, "I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little Bit More Baby," which is a monster and essential Barry.

Van McCoy
"Disco Baby"
1975

Van McCoy was a songwriter and producer, who whose career went back to the 1950s and had experience with A & R and starting a record label but found unexpected hit with this record and a song about a little dance called, "The Hustle." The song won a Grammy but Can McCoy was never able to duplicate his success with other albums and eventually died of a heart attack at the young age of 39 in 1979.

Switch
"II"
1979

Switch was a group on Motown that was produced by Jermaine Jackson and did some records in the late 70s\early 80s, of which this is their second album, hence the title. They took that name due to the fact that the members would "switch" instruments and vocal duties during their performances. I noticed the DeBarge brothers credited on the album and just like of assumed that this was the group before the 80s band, DeBarge, which had their biggest mid 80s hit, "Rhythm of the Night," but it is actually their older brothers. Apparently, Bobby DeBarge had quite the drug problem, blaming his abusive father-a military guy-go figure. They eventually mentored their younger brothers from that group, but had some lineup changes and didn't really do much other than one last record in the 80s. Drug problems and prison stunts played this family and Bobby DeBarge died of AIDS related complications in 1995, at 39.

Hubert Laws
"Land Of Passion"
1979

Hubert Laws is a flute and saxophone player with a career of over 40 years, who has worked with many notable jazz and pop musicians and producers over the years and has released over a dozen albums. He is from Texas and played in the JazzCrusaders, who would later become just, The Crusaders. He was known to crossover from classical to jazz and pop genres and this one is from his disco funk influenced era.

Thanks for reading... Have a nice weekend!
