Cowboy and Sage (fable)

Cowboy and Sage

In the vastness of the desert, in the dusty valley,
There lived old Sage, meditating in silence.
On the same lands, in the wild and hot prairies,
There lived daring Cowboy, always ready for battle.

Once they met on a narrow and dusty path,
Cowboy and Sage, two souls with different destinies.
Sage wanted to let Cowboy through (he had such a habit),
But Cowboy didn't let him leave and started conversation.

Cowboy said: "You wise, but you as defenseless as child.
And I can defeat anyone, but I have little intelligence.
I want you to share your wisdom with me, right now,
And I will become harmoniously developed person!"

Sage said: "Your desire is commendable, indeed.
But mind is not gunpowder, you can’t put it in pocket.
To become smart, you need to read a lot and think a lot,
But you don't have time, cause you just run and shoot."

Cowboy said: "I hear mockery in your words.
Once again, please grant me your wisdom.
I want to walk with a smart look so that girls admire me!
And if you refuse, I'll feed you bullets right now!"

Sage thought for a while (he had such a habit),
Then he called Cowboy to come a little closer,
Put hands on his head and uttered a spell
In unknown and mysterious language.

Cowboy was delighted and began to dance:
"Now I'm wise too? Already? I didn't even get hurt!
I must go to the city, boast to people, horses and girls!"

Sage waved hand to Cowboy and poured into pocket
A small handful of some gray powder.
It was the remnants of Cowboy's mind,
Such way Sage deceived unfortunate simpletons
And grew wiser at the expense of others.

The original text was written by me in Russian. I haven't studied English systematically so the translation may not be ideal. The main work was done by Google Translate, I just corrected obvious absurdities, where I noticed them and where I did not confuse them with brilliant insights.
