summer '2019 impressions

Let me share a few masterpiece created by Mother Nature, that sound amazing to me. All those captures are my impressions from the pre-Covid epoch, shot during the summer of 2019.

A small macro-study: the leaf of a tree, "diseased" (afflicted with galls), in the magical light of the setting sun. The time-bleached wood of the walls of the house served as a successful background. Worked a perfect model for me!

My naturalist kid used to spend a lot of time with a net, and study the biodiversity of the local pond and ditch. Among others, we met with a newt, dragonfly larvae, and this wonderful axolotl salamander. She caught five of them, and after studying and documenting, of course we released them back.

I hope that numerous viewings of cartoons about nature, BBC documentaries and reading popular science books led to the intended result - the child fell in love with nature and "our smaller brothers" and will not abuse them just for the sake of curiosity.

Guess what it is?

In the photo: cantaloupe melon. Harvest? Of course not! It grew in the Caribbean, we don't grow melons like that in our area. I bought it in a store, I really liked its smell - for several days I just kept it at home, and every night it filled the air in my room with a beautiful, wonderful fragrance. Then we ate it. She was very small!

That summer, I dug up some pine trees in the local woods and transplanted them to a nearby (abandoned) lot. Daughter me in planting those seedling. (It was not easy to dig in the ground, hold the tree and take pictures at the same time - dirty hands, you can see for yourself!)

As a bonus, you can see our cat overseer have visited the fresh plantings, and approved them. Sweet memories! Alas, this cat-lady is no longer with us ... we have orphaned.

How wonderful @qwerrie
The leave looks a bit surreal with the added texture of the disease.
The salamander is pretty cool and what great to hear your daughter learnt to respect nature and all living creatures. You must be very proud 😊

Transplanting trees, such a good cause to help other areas to develop.
Thanks for sharing the photographs and the story behind them with us 🥰
Have a great start of the new week!

Yeah, especially the pines. Pines forests are the best, and more healthy. Also -- especially good for mushrooms xD

They are beautiful.
Walked today in the mountains here with loads of pines next to the path. Not a forest yet… but still beautiful. It gave us some shade hiking up to the top.
Have soon some really tiny fungi on a dead branch. 😉
