SMAP #68 - female birdie [EN/RU]
This post goes for 'Show me your photo (of a bird)' contest, round #68. 'Female Bird' was the week's topic.
Do birds think, and about what? More precisely, not so. Of course, birds think - but in what words and images are these thoughts formed? It would be interesting to know what this seagull with a completely crazy look was thinking...
Думают ли птицы, и о чем? Точнее, не так. Конечно, птицы думают - но в каких словах и образах эти мысли формируются? Было бы интересно узнать, о чем думала эта чайка с совершенно безумным взглядом...
We met during the walk in the park...
Мы встретились во время прогулки в парке...
She rowed to the shore, where my daughter and I fed ducks and pigeons with wheat bread, and came very close to us - the distance was reduced to 1.5 meters! Only thanks to this, I actually managed to make these close plans - usually seagulls are so shy that they rise into the air, it is worth approaching them already at 15 meters ...
Она подгребла к берегу, на котором мы с дочкой кормили пшеничным хлебом уток и голубей, и подошла к нам очень близко - дистанция сократилась до 1,5 метра! Только благодаря этому мне собственно и удалось сделать эти близкие планы - обычно чайки настолько пугливы, что поднимаются в воздух, стоит подойти к ним уже на 15-ть метров...
And then - she either went out to the ground, closer to the pigeons, then retreated back; she obviously inspected what kind of free distribution of food the pigeons had here, but she didn’t throw herself at the bread, she was just silent and looked very carefully with her eyes ... Traces of thoughts are present on her face, but what exactly these thoughts are, I can only guess. "Wheat bread again, oh my God, how tired I am of this roll! When will they bring me meat, for example, a piece of good lean beef?" (But it is not exactly!)
А дальше - она то выходила на землю, поближе к голубям, то отходила обратно; она явно инспектировала какую бесплатную раздачу еды здесь имеют голуби, но сама на хлеб не бросалась, просто молчала и оч-чень внимательно смотрела глазами... Следы мыслей присутствуют на ее лице, но какие именно это мысли, я могу лишь догадываться. "Опять пшеничный хлеб, о боже, как мне надоела эта булка! Когда же они принесут мне мяса, например кусок доброй нежирной говядины?" (Но это не точно!)
At the end of my short post, an important part concerning the theme of the week. Here is my humble assumption about the gender. Seagulls have no particular difference between male and female, neither in appearance nor in habits (by the way, both parents of seagulls hatch their chicks equally). The only indirect sign is size: as a rule, males are slightly larger than females. There was no other seagull nearby, so it is impossible to compare the sizes and decide.
В завершение моего небольшого поста, добавляю скромные предположения о ее поле. У чаек особенной разницы между самцом и самкой нет, ни во внешности, ни в привычках (кстати, оба родителя в равной степени высиживают свои птенцов-чаят). Единственный косвенный признак, которым можно воспользоваться, это размер: как правило, самцы немного больше самок.
Therefore, for the competition, I chose photo from a different set: a couple of Crested Grebe ducks behind their nest, thus one of them definitely should be a female! But which one exactly?
Again, crested grebe male has a slightly larger size, and - which is significant feature - it has more colorful plumage (to attract the female, of course). The female's dress is more relaxed, tailored in gray tones - that's why I figured out it was the female, who is in the foreground on this photo. As for their wonderful tuft - each of the partners has it!
... And, of course, the eyes. Just look into those eyes and everything will become clear to you. Isnt she stares at you like your girlfriend offended?
Поэтому, для конкурса я выбрал другое фото. Пара уток-поганок возле своего гнезда, и одна из них определенно самка! Но какая именно? Самец утки-поганки также имеет чуть больший размер, и - что существенно - более пестрое оперение (для привлечения самки, конечно же). Платье самки более спокойное, выдержано в серых тонах - почему я определил, что именно она на переднем плане этом фото. А что до их замечательного хохолка -- он не отличительный признак, ибо имеется у обоих партнеров.
...Ну и, конечно, взгляд. Просто посмотрите в эти глаза, и вам все станет понятно. Настоящая стерва!

Чайки это одни из самых умных птиц, наряду с врановыми. И из-за этого они те ещё психи! 😄 их поведение непредсказуемо! Она могла просто напасть на голубей.
хаха. хорошо сказано! как люди, ихехе...
периодически наблюдаю сценки, как чайки гоняют ворон, или еще какое-то очевидное взаимодействие-напряженность. как пошутили в комментах, "мысль есть одна, и она о еде", кроме шутки, все конфликты наверное на дележе ресурсов и вкусненького завязаны.
а "врановые" - это кто?

I started reading this and thinking how does he know the difference between sexes in seagulls as I don't, then I carried on reading haha
