RealFeel

Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather. — John Ruskin

Those familiar with online weather forecast platforms know what RealFeel stands for.

RealFeel is an index that describes what the temperature really feels like. It is a unique composite of the effects of temperature, wind, humidity, sunshine intensity, cloudiness, precipitation and elevation on the human body—everything that affects how warm or cold a person feels.

The last few days were quite hot. Going outside means you will be sweating like a pig, with no exception. Even staying in the room couldn’t save you from the irritation of the scorching sun. But it wasn’t meant to happen, at least during the rainy season. There should be continuous rain and the sky covered with thick black could all day long. Things have changed— nature is punishing us for not caring for it. In one of my posts, I mentioned how it is concerning for the elders who have witnessed the perfect harmony of nature and are now experiencing the opposite.

Anyway, this morning was a bit different from others. Usually, I wake up early in the morning, and today was no different. Surprisingly, the weather seems to find its track back after long days— the sky is wrapped with an army of dark clouds, a little breeze condones it, and soon after, the rain starts. Ah, the real rainy season! The real feel!

I didn’t miss the opportunity to look at the sky and devour the beauty it was displaying— a perfect mixture of light and shadow casting over the horizon, announcing the benevolence of the mighty rain with full force. It was downpouring hard, and the small plot of land in front of our house still left from heavy urbanisation has started to reserve water.

There will be frogs calling for mates once there is enough water for them to play, crickets will be chirping, for that their residence is flooded— rushing to our rooms for shelter, and ants will march towards the higher ground to save themselves from drowning, which is our balcony. It’s a common rainy season scenario that sometimes brings me joy. At the same time, it causes problems as the roads get annoyingly muddy, making the movements uncomfortable.

Well, I can manage— probably retreating to my room and waiting for the perfect moment to go out and buy regular commodities in bulk so that I don’t have to face the adversity out there.

But there are some people; for them, the rain is nothing but a curse. The middle-class families who have to go to their work early in the morning don’t enjoy the raindrops; instead, they feel the agony of the creator pierced through the atmosphere only to obstacle their journey and increase their sufferings. The roadside shop owners won’t be able to open their shops due to rain; some will probably have to starve with their families. Or that stray dog; it will have to wait till the sun shines and people come outside, creating an opportunity for it to stare at the faces in the tea stall and get a piece of half-eaten bread in return. Poor creatures!
