Camper update 01

avatar

Hey everyone, hope this finds you all well. It's been an interesting week for me lol. We've been in the camper almost a whole week and seem to be adjusting fine.

UPDATES

Few things we've done to make it tolerable is we taped visqueen over the top of the camper and added a tarp. It covered most of the camper but most importantly our room is dry now. We need another tarp to finish covering the other end but that'll have to wait until next payday. (As Doug's check was a week short due to our move.)

We used gorilla tape to secure the visqueen and bailing wire to secure the tarp. We already had bailing wire so that won't be included in the total.

As you can see here we don't have the slide out completely covered either. We'll get there tho.

Inside our room. I covered one of the windows with a cardboard box to stop air flow from coming in. It didn't latch properly and one could just push the window open. We taped it shut also (then put the box over)

On the other window, it slides open/close. I hung a towel over it to help stop any air flow.. We didn't want to close it off completely so we could still have some fresh air if needed, since it worked properly with a screen on it.

Over the bedroom door, since there's a small gap over/under the door. I hung a sheet up. It's cold in the living room with the slideout messed up and the bedroom door was where most of the cold air was coming in from. The sheet really helped, as did the box and towel. The temps this week has ranged from low of 32°f to 70°f.

A CLOSE CALL

My first night in the camper... The next morning I went to go pick Doug up from work. I didn't realize our cat Payne had slipped into the living room as I leaving out of the bedroom. When we returned home, I heard him crying to get back into the camper. He'd got out and couldn't get back in. 🤦

Thankfully the big dogs didn't get a chance to see him, not that they would have tried to hurt him right off but they would have scared him and make him defensive and then who knows what would have happened.

He's adjusting fairly well. He doesn't like confined to the room but he like it better than the kennel! One day tho, this to shall end and he'll have the whole camper to roam🥰

ACCIDENTS, UH OHS AND OOPS.. My accident report. Damnit! 😖😩

Not sure if y'all know this about me but if you follow, you'll soon learn I'm an accident waiting for a place to happen.
I got hurt twice in one day🤦
The first accident Doug was on the roof and asked if I thought I could move the extension ladder. Of course I said sure! Well, I wasn't moving it properly, as I thought I only have to move it a bit over I could pick straight up and set it back down. Well, I'm sure you experienced ladder people already see where this is going (I'm not quite 5'4 tall).... The ladder being top heavy started to sway and go backwards. It's a wonder it didn't break my neck but I caught it with my shoulders and my back! I just squatted with my butt out and hung on to so it'd land on me. IDK how I managed to get it back up & off me but with a heave I did. 😮 Doug told me he'd never ask me to move a ladder again🤦🙄🥰🤭 it frogged both my arms(up close to my shoulders) it bruised me deep. My left arm was the worst bruise. It showed up almost instantly and was very sore to the touch. My right arm, it was sore to the touch but the bruise didn't show for a couple of days.

My 2nd accident was just a bit later. And hurt a bit more. We had 4 big concrete blocks (pads that we'll put under the jack stands.) Doug had already moved 2 from the back of the truck, so here I go to help. I was reaching to get the one off the top, sliding it towards me .... Well, long story short I smashed the hell out of 2 fingers.

Thankfully, I've been bless with a high pain tolerance! I said few choice words, bled like a stuck pig, wrapped it up and went on. Doug pretty much grounded me after that incident and swore he was gonna wrap me in plastic bubbles if I didn't quit getting hurt!! But I'm hard-headed and stubborn so we'll see how well that goes.....

Anyways, my fingers are about healed, and so are the bruises on both of my arms. They're turning yellow and starting to fade. (They'd been black)

Anyways, I'm fine. Doug IS still letting me help lol not sure he has much choice🤦🤣 but I'm trying to be more careful!

FUTURE PLANS

There's so much that needs done. But most likely major stuff won't happen until May. Doug's vacations will start over and should be past all the cold and rainy season. In the meantime, there's plenty to be done. All of the windows need to be boxed up. Also, there's still boxes that's been stacked in the living room that needs unpacked/sorted and put up somewhere. That's going to be a slow process figuring out what to do with it all.

RUNNING TOTAL

Previous total: 500.00

14.86 (small roll)visqueen
30.63 (big roll)visqueen
11.98 (x2) gorilla tape

New total: 569.33

Oh wait... The bestest part of our camper is this...

Sorry to hear about the accidents, but glad to see you're up and about still. So nothing more than some hurts and bruises. =) Glad, it was not worse. You need to be more careful.
