A fatal accident occurred at Kanjuruhan Stadium in Indonesia on Saturday. At least 150 people were killed and around 180 injured after the stampede. Chaos broke out at the stadium after a match between arch-rivals Arema FC and Persabaya Surabaya in East Java. Arema FC fans stormed the field after a 3-2 loss against Surabaya in one of the worst football tragedies of recent times.

How it happened

After the end-of-match whistle, the attacking fans descended on the field, after which the police had to use tear gas to control them. Supporters are reported to have stampeded after this. Thousands of fans tried to escape through the only two exit gates leading to a deadly stampede and many fans died of suffocation. The dead included children and policemen.

Several videos have surfaced on social media showing fans running onto the field after the game and clashing with police. On other videos, fans were trying to pull out the injured .In shocking footage posted on social media, lifeless bodies of football fans can be seen lying on the ground after the deadly stampede. While some people are seen tending to the wounded, the lifeless corpses of others lie there. However, these videos were deleted after being on social media for a while. It can be said that any common man will get hurt after seeing this footage. And that's why the shocking video is being shared from various places on social media.

East Java police chief Nico Afinta said supporters had started attacking police officers and damaging police vehicles. Then tear gas was used by the police, which they must have done under duress. "It turned out to be anarchy," said the police officer. They started attacking officers, they were damaging vehicles. We mean that... they were not all anarchists. Only 3,000 people entered the field.'

A worst situation created as fans tried to escape from the stadium through two exit gates and lost their lives due to lack of oxygen in the stampede. Many lost their balance and were crushed by the huge crowd.

Taken actions

Indonesian govt doing their best to handle this situation. They made a committee to investigate the situation. Indonesian President Joko Widodo ordered a security investigation into the incident and ordered the temporary suspension of the Indonesian Football League - Liga 1. In the meantime, FIFA has sent a report on the incident.

@rafatrony Football leagues craze is too much all over the world and yes, those fans fight and make things terrible if their team is losing which is not a good sign. This should be stopped and messages from the best players should be spread appealing fans not to adopt or take part in such activities.
Thank you for sharing the story!!!

I heard about this in news, it's all over social media. Really a tragic incident will never want to do something like this, so many people died at once. Who has thought of a death like this? NONE.
