Hike In Price Of Goods During Holiday.

Holidays are special occassions for people to rest, travel to different places to have fun and all. Holidays can be the Christmas, New Year, Eid , Easter, Summer and others. There’s one popular tradition that we all or the majority of us practice which is having fun. If we don’t have fun, we’re surely going to take maybe a day off from work so we can rest. Things like that are normal during holiday not just in my country but in every part of the world.

For my country, I noticed that there is one act or tradition that people practice especially the business people or those in the transportation sector. It can be very annoying and I’d explain. I watched a video of a Nigerian who travelled to another country and he mentioned that in that particular country, people make things cheap during holidays or festive period so that almost everyone can be able to afford one thing or the other. Everyone will surely have one or two things they want to buy during holiday so they usually make things cheap so that everyone can benefit and we all can be happy. I feel that is how it is supposed to be but in my country, it is otherwise.

One bad tradition that we always practice here is that people make things extremely expensive during holidays. If you ask why it was expensive, they’d tell you that there is holiday and it is normal to make things expensive. You can ask another Nigerian for you to know that I’m not lying. It is really annoying. I feel this is when we’re aupposed to make things cheap as an act of spreading love between each other but they are just making things extremely expensive and making life hard for people. This is not fair and here in Nigeria, it is hard for you to see any business person who reduce the price of his product or at least sell it at normal price. I hope this crazy tradition stops.

Secondly, another tradition that people practice is spending too much money. It is normal to want to have fun during holidays but you tend to realize that people spend more than what they can afford. Some people go as far as taking loans because they want to have an enjoyable holiday. No!! Things should not be done that way.
There are some people who don’t even go out, they just have fun with their family at home and that is enough to make them happy.

I asked a particular fireworks seller some questions and she made me know that there is a particular banger sold for five thousand naira. That’s a lot of money here and those people will still be the ones to be complaining about the present government.

I just hope people stop spending lavishly because of holidays that will come and go.

These are traditions that we practice here in my country during holidays and I don’t like them. I hope we all do better.

Omo! I used to think this hike in everything during Christmas is everywhere...

This thing we are doing in this country eeeh, we are our own problem.
Instead of us to calm down and make things easy for everyone, we turn it difficult 😢

You are a very conscientious girl from what I can see, being thrifty in these times is a gift that we must practice, the culture of consumerism also comes from the invasion of constant advertising through audiovisual media that encourage us to buy and buy.

Yeah, expecially in Niaja, it's always opportunity for business, for me it doesn't really have to be like that because people will still buy things wether in festive season or not

Nigeria will always be Nigeria.
Everyone want to gain from another man's pocket, however every opportunity can not be missed.

I hope this changes. Thank you for sharing

They know people are pressured to spend more money during this time for parties, presents and family time, so they hike the price.
