Soon to be Fashion Icon ๐Ÿ˜

I spent my day wisely today (at Least I think so) but before I go on about that, a little background story ๐Ÿ˜‚

I'm someone that has always been so big on fashion, it's safe to say I was obsessed with style but I had a problem, everytime I saw any piece I wanted, it was hardly my size, I guess I'm smaller and petiter than a regular size 8 ( I'm so convinced ๐Ÿ˜ฉ).

I was so discouraged and sad about it because I always had style inspirations and sometimes I would even draw it out but anytime I have to purchase a piece of clothing I seldom find my size and if I am lucky enough to find a size close to what I can wear, I have to shape the style out of that piece (literally) and that was honestly depressing.

Facing this challenge was one of the motivation I had to start making my own clothes, even in the midst of challenges and impossibilities I struggled to learn the art.

Well my story is a popular one, I was driven by passion for the art and even though I did have the finances to get professional tutoring, I didn't let that stop me, I started learning from YouTube, watching videos day and night, practicing with my mothers Sewing machine and viola! Here I am.

I wouldn't say I'm a bad ass just yet but I'm definitely getting there, I hope to get professional tutoring sometime in the future but for now, I will keep practicing till I get better.

Back to my sob story about not finding my size of clothes ๐Ÿ˜’, one of these days I had this style inspiration and I needed an Ankara skirt to bring my idea to reality for those who don't know what this is, it is a normal skirt made from Ankara material ( an African fabric)

So yeah I got my fabric from the market, I didn't bother to get linings because I didn't want them on my skirt so I got my measurements handy and that was about all I needed to make my skirt.

The funny part of this story is that I didn't spend so much time making this, it has to be one of the simplest piece I have made so far.

What I did was spread my fabric on the floor, folded a part of it and then I cut out the front part of my skirt and I repeated the process again but this time I added extra one inch for the zip and this second part is for the back of the skirt.

I proceeded to cut the back side into two equal pieces to enable me insert the zip to the skirt.

The next thing I did was sew each side of the zip to each halves of the back side of my skirt.

Then I joined both the back and front to the skirt together and lastly I bent the hem of the skirt and booommm!!!!
My skirt was ready in less than an hour๐Ÿฅฐ

Making your own clothes often ensures that you get the right fitting and you can sew any style you want.
You must be super brave to learn from the internet as they are filled with error videos from mediocre designers as well.

Go girl you are doing well already. โค
