Studying the environment of Havana's southern lagoons 🧭🏞 (ENG/ESP)

Greetings friends. As part of the research we carry out in the Environmental Geology Department of the Geological Survey of Cuba, one of the main topics in our field of study are the karst lagoons (lagoons formed in natural depressions in the ground in limestone soils) that are part of the Almendares-Vento basin in its southern section of Havana, the main supplier of drinking water to Havana.
These lagoons have been formed on part of the natural depressions of the terrain that function totally or partially as groundwater recharge routes, so their study is essential to solve the contamination problems they may suffer and thus preserve the health of the environment and society.

Saludos amigos. Como parte de las investigaciones que realizamos en el departamento de Geología Ambiental del Servicio Geológico de Cuba, una de las temáticas principales en nuestro campo de estudio son las lagunas cársicas (lagunas formadas en depresiones naturales del terreno en terrenos calizos) que forman parte de la cuenca Almendares-Vento en su tramo del sur de la Habana, la principal abastecedora de agua potable a La Habana.

Estas lagunas se han formado sobre parte de las depresiones naturales del terreno que funcionan total o parcialmente como vías de recarga de agua subterránea, por lo que su estudio es fundamental para dar solución a los problemas de contaminación que pueden sufrir y con ello, preservar la salud del medioambiente y la sociedad.
