Family Visit to the Andres Eloy Blanco House Museum (Eng/Esp)

Today I’m sharing my visit to the Andres Eloy Blanco House Museum; this time, my husband and daughter came along with me. During this tour, we focused on the famous Parral, since it was Baby Bee’s favorite spot—she settled in there to run around the vine that decorates the mansion’s inner courtyard.
At the entrance to the museum stands a large sculpture depicting the poet, seated with an upright and serene posture. She is dressed in a classic, tailored formal gown, and her hands hold an open book resting on her lap. We took the opportunity to snap a few photos there; Alma loved this statue, and to tell the truth, it’s one of the most photographed landmarks in the city—you can always see passersby in Bolivar Square taking selfies with it.
From the outside, you can see the central courtyard of the mansion—a large wooden structure with a grapevine hanging from it; thick branches are intertwined on the roof. Surrounding it is a garden filled with various lush plants, some of which are in pots. Alma was happy observing each flower and connecting with nature, so I let her explore the “jungle” on her own, looking for a lion.
Every time I pass by here, I stop to admire much of the building because it’s still in its original state—wattle-and-daub walls, wooden beams, and a thatched roof. The floor is also original—terracotta tiles that are over two hundred years old. I was struck by the play of shadows in this space; sunlight filters through the foliage above and illuminates the area, highlighting the different shades of green.
Alma was running around this area, imagining that each room was a big playhouse. Her enthusiasm was contagious, so I stayed there and became her adventure partner—also to make sure everything was in order and that her antics wouldn’t cause any trouble for the staff.
It was a fun visit; this time I enjoyed it from a different perspective—that curious, fresh, and innocent viewpoint that can only come from a child’s experience. Alma broke with protocol, put the information aside, and devoted herself to exploring this space as if it all belonged to her—like a child discovering a huge mansion complete with its own jungle.

Hoy les comparto mi visita a la Casa Museo Andrés Eloy Blanco, en esta oportunidad me acompañaron mi esposo y mi hija. En este recorrido nos enfocamos en el conocido Parral, pues fue la zona preferida de Baby Bee, allí se instaló a correr alrededor de la enredadera vegetal que decora el patio interno de la casona.
En la entrada de este lugar se encuentra una gran escultura con la imagen del poeta, está sentada con postura erguida y serena. Viste un traje formal clásico de corte cerrado y sus manos sostienen un libro abierto apoyado sobre su regazo. Aprovechamos para tomarnos unas fotos allí, a Alma le encantó esta estatua y a decir verdad es uno de los objetos más fotografiados de la ciudad ya que a toda hora se puede observar a los transeúntes de la plaza Bolívar tomarse una selfie con la estatua.
Desde afuera se aprecia el patio central de la casona, una gran estructura de madera sobre la cual cuelga el parral, en el techo se nota que se entrelazan gruesas ramas. Alrededor también se destaca un jardín con diversas plantas frondosas, algunas de ellas están en macetas. Alma estaba feliz observando cada flor y conectando con la naturaleza, así que la dejé tranquila en su visita por la "selva" buscando un león.
Cada vez que paso por acá me quedo contemplando gran parte de la construcción porque todavía está original, paredes de bahareque, vigas de madera y techo de caña verada. El piso también es el original, unas piezas de terracota de más de doscientos años. Me llamó la atención el juego de sombras que se percibe en este espacio, la luz solar se filtra a través del follaje superior e ilumina el espacio, destacando los diferentes tonos de verde.
Alma estuvo corriendo en esta área, imaginaba que cada habitación era una gran casita para jugar. Su entusiasmo era contagioso, así que me quedé allí y fui su compañera de aventuras, también para supervisar que todo estuviera en orden y sus travesuras no resultarán un problema para el personal del lugar.
Fue una visita divertida, esta vez la disfruté desde un enfoque diferente, desde esa mirada curiosa, fresca e inocente que solo se logra desde la experiencia de un niño. Alma se saltó el protocolo, dejó la información en segundo plano y se dedicó a recorrer este espacio como si todo le perteneciera, como un niño que descubre una gran casona con selva incluida.
