My Walk Through San Francisco (Eng/Esp)
English version
Walking through the Historic District of Cumana—this time along the street leading to the San Francisco neighborhood—I came across scenes I’ve often seen depicted in paintings. Artistic expressions have emerged from these streets, showcasing houses with colonial facades that refuse to succumb to the ravages of time.

Just as in the paintings, there are no people visible on the streets in the photos either, as if the scene were suspended in time. I’ve walked through here many times, and if it weren’t for the Square Virgen del Carmen and the new murals, one could say that this entire neighborhood has remained unchanged. You really have to get to know this area to be sure which way to go, since all the streets look alike.

I believe that the Basilica of Santa Inés is the landmark of this area, more so than the San Antonio de la Eminencia Castle, because the church is located among streets that run in various directions, whereas the fort has a more restricted access route.

Every time I pass through here, I can’t help but feel a certain nostalgia because my grandparents used to tell me about these streets and about attending Mass at the Santa Inés Church on Sundays. It was a special occasion to honor God and Christian beliefs.

I enjoy strolling through the city streets; that way, I get to know the history of this town more intimately, while I relax for a while and take in the incredible views.

Saludos.
