I love being non social

I am not a social person; I can say my social life is zero because I don't participate in anything social. Sometimes I do call myself a boring person, even before another person gets the chance to say it to me. And I'll just laugh over it and forget about it.

I can say my upbringing contributed to my not being a social person. This generation has access to technology, unlike when I was growing up. I grew up with parents who believed giving a mobile phone to an underage child was a crime and disrespectful. So growing up, I didn't have access to technology other than television, which I sit to watch with my family once in a while.

When I graduated from secondary school, I was given a mobile phone. This was the stage where my friends were getting different kinds of mobile phones for Facebook and the very popular 2Go then. I wished I had one too so that I wouldn't feel inferior when my peers were using their phones, but my parents didn't agree.

I remember when a friend of mine in school helped me create a Facebook account, and my dad saw my profile. I was punished for it, and that made me forget the password to the account, which led me to abandon it. This was when I would have built my social life gradually, but I wasn't given the chance to because my parents thought I would be corrupted if I were exposed to social life.

It was when I was twenty years old that I could say I had a mobile phone I could call mine. Before then, my dad got me a multi-link small phone when I graduated from secondary school, which could only receive calls. Every day he comes back from work, he collects the phone and then gives it back the next morning so that he can reach me when he needs to pass any message across before he returns from work.

I don't like taking pictures because I think I'm not photogenic enough or good at poses, and this is one of the things that makes social life interesting. Posting pictures on different social platforms, attracting many followers, and receiving different comments are what ladies like, but I'm exceptional. Not for pride, but I just don't fancy it; I don't see it as a way of life.

In response to the prompt, am I comfortable with my nonsocial life? Yes, I am comfortable with it because of my mental health. The disadvantages of social life are much greater than the advantages. This is the main reason why I don't post my lifestyle on social media. I don't want anything or anyone to tamper with my peace of mind.

Has it affected my relationships with others?

I can't say it has affected my relationship with others in any way. Those who are close to me know that I'm not a social type. I don't go out; my life operates on a triangle, from home to school to church, and that was how I grew up. This had become my way of life, and up until now, that's how I still run my life. I'm okay with it because such a lifestyle is not stressful.

Thanks for your time, and your comments will be appreciated.

So many persons are wired this way too. Not everyone will thrive as a social butterfly. I'm mostly caught up indoors but I can be a mix of both social and not-social. And I don't feel like it affects much. It's my way of life afterall

Your dad must be a disciplinarian. Both being social and nonsocial can have there advantages and disadvantages. One thing I like about being nonsocial is that you are in control of your space.

One major upside about your triangular lifestyle is that you wont judge anything with anybody as it will keep you aways from gossips and trouble. Well done you are doing well.

It is an interesting situation you have been in for. I am happy it works for you though. It might not work for all. In my case I was a kid before technology, i got my first mobile in my 5 year of work, so it was only cable and TV that was a distraction and both were regulated heavily at home. Our social groups was actual friends, and our connection was good old dial up phone. However I must say that technology has allowed me to be in touch with the same group of friends even though all of us are in different parts of the world. In the end of it we will always have positives and negatives, and it is good to be exposed to things to work it out on your own. It is an interesting challenge for today's parents on where to draw the line without affecting the childs place in society:)

Good post, as you can see it made me start to think too :)

I'm glad you enjoyed reading it. Parents should know what and when to pamper a child.

I was once here too.
I graduated from secondary school before I owned my first phone...I bought it myself too
