A Child Who Commits a Crime: Victim or Criminal?

Hello everyone, as a man in my 50s, I often think about the children who do crimes. I think they do it most of the time because of the environment they grew up in. A child who sees their mother getting beaten up daily by their father, they get mental trauma for it. In the end, they also end up doing the same but because they think it's right or a way to show affection. Because their mother still stays in an abusive relationship which makes them think their father is on the right side. Not every child will think of it this way, but I feel most of the children end up having this kind of thought. So, I feel parents are the ones at fault for their child's violent behavior.

If parents grew up their children in a good environment then this kind of violent behavior still could occur. Because sometimes it's some mental illness, kids won't understand what's happening with their mind. But I feel if parents ever see their children are too aggressive and too violent or have a tendency to harm animals then they should take their child to the doctor. They should immediately seek medical help, because it's not a normal human being would do. A child cannot be born with hate in their heart, there may be some reasons behind it. As an adult, I feel it's our responsibility to ensure that our children are not doing something wrong. We shouldn't confidently say that our children wouldn't do something wrong because we didn't build them that way. We should learn to accept that no matter how much guidance we give, we can never control or tame our children. We may be able to do it for some time but eventually they will break free from it. Because no one likes to be controlled.

These were my concerns about the children and the things we should be doing to avoid making them violent. I feel if we are careful with our children then they won't be able to harm other people in any way. Also, I think if some children have committed some serious crimes then they should take responsibility for it. They should be facing consequences but it should depend on the situation, whether they were mentally ill or not, if they were ill then law should provide them help for mental health alongside the punishment. I don't think it's completely necessary to give them the punishments which we give for the adults, it should depend on the situation and many other things. If another child harms my family then obviously I will never forgive them and I will want them to get punished regardless of how young they are. I feel these feelings are natural and it's not wrong. Maybe some people will be kind enough to let go of the matter but that is very rare.

My opinion is that, a criminal is a criminal and age is just a number. But I still think the punishment should depend on how mature that kid was or consider other matters before giving him punishment as we do for the adults.

Yes I strongly support that too. Age is just a number and a criminal is a criminal. No victim would want the criminal going scot-free so either young or adults should be accountable for their crimes but the level of punishment might differ just like how we scold children in the process of upbringing
