The Letter I Hope You Never Need

When I read the new theme of the contest, I didn't think about money, achievements or a list of goals. The thing that first came into my mind is about the kind of man I hope to be one year from now.

I'm in my 50s and I have learned that time moves much faster than we expect. One year may seem like a short period but it's not for my two young daughters because they will continue to grow a lot in a year. They will be learning new stuff and become a little more independent or learn about the emotions and slowly leave behind the little habits that make me smile today. Because children will not always behave the same way. When they grow up they begin to change. So, I have seen many parents are controlling and they can't take it when they see some major changes in their own children. But I don't want to become a parent like it.

If I could leave a message for my future self, it would be simple "Don't try to control your children and don't miss small moments with them because it's not gonna come back."

I don't want my future self to regret for saying saying, "Just give me five more minutes," because of work. My daughters will never be this young again and business will always bring another challenge tomorrow. I will hope that I have always listened to their endless stories and laughed at their silly jokes even when it was not funny and created memories they will carry long after they have grown up.

I also hope I remembered to not take my wife for granted and take care of her like a queen because she's the mother of my two princesses. She has always stood beside me without any questions at every difficult season. I have noticed that the people who deserve our gratitude the most hear it the least. I hope I never let love become silent simply because it has become familiar.1

There is something else I hope I never lose which is humanity. I hope I still try to make other people feel good and not make them feel low. I hope that I would still find happiness in the small things. I hope those small moments are still part of my life. I know that not everything will go according to plan. There may be some mistakes and unexpected struggles. One year from today, I don't hope to become a completely different person. I simply hope to become a slightly better husband a more patient father and a man who has fewer regrets about the time he chose to spend with the people he loves.

Writing to the future us, I think is a moment of joy, a retrospective moment of pondering over some certain things both big and the little little things as you said.

Funny enough, those moments may never come back to us... Take care.
