Deceitful: The Inkwell Prompt #69

When things are not in favour of some people who are in the same region, they would find all means to be relevant in that area. This also applies in the case of the tortoise and the blabbermouth (which is the "rat").

It happened this way, the blabbermouth was bragging around the town about the food it got at home and the tortoise was so hungry for a couple of days that it could not get what to eat. The tortoise decided to interrogate the blabbermouth on how it got the food so if it can also do the same thing or better still if it can get some food from the blabbermouth (the rat) but the tortoise was turned down because the rat refused to assist the tortoise with the response that to be enough for you and me, you have to look for your food elsewhere.

The tortoise left the blabbermouth
House with an unhappy situation was going on the road to its house and while on the road, the tortoise met with the dog on the roadside. Tortoise said, Do you believe the rat was telling people in the town that you are just big for nothing and there is nothing you can do to the rat?

The dog was furious. So it was me the blabbermouth was making a gesture of, I would show it the stuff that I made up. They departed the place.

Immediately tortoise left the dog, it still met the cobra on the road and it told the cobra could you imagine what the blabbermouth told me about you that the only thing you can do is crawl but you can't enter its house because there is security that used to protect the Blabbermouth.

Cobra said it was me that the blabbermouth tackled and that I can not enter its house. Are you sure of what you are saying? I would make sure that both the blabbermouth and its children would be killed, don't worry the rat will see me on camera and both of them left.

Dog and Cobra were at their homes, had set to move to the rat's house and they got there almost the same time but they didn't see each other. It was the dog that first entered the rat's house and immediately the blabbermouth spotted that the trouble had entered its home, it ran for its life. The dog met the rat's children at home, it, first of all, killed them. Later, Cobra entered and it was about to do the same thing before they saw each other. Cobra said Oh! That means I am not the only one who has been offended.

Wonder shall never end, how come? What are you doing here? Because I don't know the relationship between you and the rat. Said the dog.

Cobra replied that I should be the one that will ask you all these questions, you and the rat are not friends at all and then what transpired between you and the rat?

Can you believe that the rat was bragging around the town that I am just big for nothing? There is nothing that I can do. But when I got here I didn't see the rat home and it was its children that I used as a message to the rat. Mind you, Cobra you are here. What is your mission here? Said the dog.

Cobra said that is how they used to ask, I was on my way home and I saw the tortoise coming in my direction and it told me that the rat said the only thing I can do in the bush is crawl and I can't kill the rat that was why I just want to show it myself the colour I made up.

Both of them left the rat's house and returned to their homes, but they did not know that the tortoise had been hidden very close to that place and immediately the tortoise saw the dog and Cobra leaving. The tortoise entered the rat's house and packed all the food in the store including the dead children of the rat and found its way back to its house.

Meanwhile, when the rat was running for its life, it saw the tortoise where it had hidden in one sharp corner and said Ah! See the wicked world, so you set a trap for me because of food.

The rat went straight to report the incident to the king of the Jungle (Mr Lion). The King also sent the guards to the tortoise's house to come to the palace for interrogation and the rat accompanied them to the tortoise's house but when the guards got there, the tortoise was eating food and it was the bone of the rat's children tortoise was using as a toothpick to remove particles in its mouth.

Ah! The tortoise, it is my children you are eating like this. What have I done to deserve this? Said the rat.

The guards said the King of the Jungle wants your presence at the Palace right now.

Hmmm, the tortoise laughed and said what is the matter?

The guards responded that when you get there you will know.

After a couple of hours, The king of the jungle was trying to settle the differences among the chiefs. Guards, the tortoise, and the rat entered the palace.

The King of the jungle (Mr Lion) said that welcomed the tortoise, my friend. There was an allegation level against you that you caused the incident which led to the sudden death of the rat's children at its house. Is it true?

My Lord, as you know that I am an easy-going person. I was on my own, the rat came to tell me that it has excess food at home and I told the rat to give me some food because I did not have food to eat at home but it turned me down that I should go elsewhere to look for food and I can't fold my hands and watch. Said the tortoise.

They were on this issue, the dog and the Chief Cobra entered the king of the Jungle Palace. Both of them said you shall live long the king of the Jungle, we are here to say hello to you.

You are welcome, my pals! Said the King.

The King of the jungle asked further. Okay, I heard you the tortoise but why did you involve the dog and the Cobra in this matter?

The tortoise replied when I know the dog and the Cobra are not a friend of the rat and I used my trick to cause war among them so that I would have my way.

Eh! We have been manipulated by the tortoise trick. Said the dog and the Cobra.

In the king of the Jungle's judgement, it confessed that what has happened has happened, the rat you are the one who I will plead with to forget everything because what has gone can not come back. It is my advice for both of you to embrace peace with each other, and I believe that such a thing will not repeat itself in the nearest future.

The rat said Ah! My Lord, we are talking about the children and you are asking us to embrace peace. No problem at all.

All of them left the King of the Jungle Palace and after a while, the rat was playing in the jungle and it saw a hunter who tried to set a trap for the "antelope". Immediately after the rat sighted it, it went to the tortoise house.

When the rat got there, the tortoise was singing a melody to the extent that it was dancing to it. The rat said to the tortoise, my friend, you are dancing. It seems you just won a Jackpot!

No, my friend. I am just singing to forget my distress. Said the tortoise.

The rat says no distress again because I have seen a solution to our problems. I am here to tell you where we can find the food because I have seen it. Do you know the jungle that links to my house by the left side? You will see one pit down there covered with dry leaves. The food is there, it was just covered with dry leaves so that people would not suspect that such things are there but I came here to enable us to plan when we would go there together so we could have these foods for ourselves.

The tortoise was saying in its mind, thank God! This fool didn't wise at all and would teach it a lesson. and said no problem, my good friend and I appreciate you for these but I will suggest going there three days to this time.

Okay, that is fine by me. What are we friends for? A friend in need is a friend indeed. Till then, let us put our store in good order to accommodate these foods. Said the rat.

The following day, the tortoise decided to go there to have all these foods for itself but on getting there, it was trying to pack the dry leaves and it fell into the trap being set for the antelope. After a while, the rat went there to check whether the tortoise might have gone there, as usual, to prove smartness or not.

On getting there, the rat saw the tortoise being trapped and it was calling for help but the rat said bravo, well done! Oh! I know that you will still show your greed by making it be yours alone. This is good for you, you have enjoyed your moments and this is my turn, and you have to face the consequences of your actions. Do you forget what you have done for me? Do you think I forgot? No, I just calmed down so that you will continue with your usual attitude. No king of the jungle that will side you here, all day for the thief but one day is for the owner. This is a reward for greedy people like you so face it.

A lesson for the turtle for being greedy and having caused the death of the little ratites. A very interesting fable because the tortoise showed no remorse.
Greetings

Yup, it is not good for one to be greedy in achieving anything in life. Thank you for your comments on my post!

You've built a story with quite a cast of characters, @raymondpeter. The story has the feel of a classic fable, like The Tortoise and the Hare. Animals have appeared in stories throughout history to illustrate important concepts to children about everything from greed to common sense.

Thanks for sharing your story in The Ink Well, and for supporting other community members by reading and commenting on their stories.

Wow, that was an epic story, @raymondpeter. In the future, please don't feature the death of children in stories in The Ink Well. Even rat children! (All of the animals are quite anthropomorphic in this story.) Thank you!

Noted, it will not repeat itself again. Thank you for your observations. Honestly, I forgot not to feature it in my fiction.
