Greetings again my dear friends I hope you are all very well, Metamask is undoubtedly one of the most recognized wallets in the world of cryptocurrencies, especially when the NFT boom occurred, somehow or another people who were participating in any of these projects NFT games met and installed this extension for your browser, in order to interact with the projects mentioned above.

So Metamask is a cryptocurrency sotfware that we can install as a web browser extension, that is, it acts as a bridge between the various applications of the Ethereum Blockchain with web browsers, this feature has given this wallet a greater adoption for many users worldwide.

However, recently information has come out from its developer company, ConsenSys, which announced changes in its privacy policy, which has generated uncertainty among its users, especially those who make payments with Ethereum from their Wallets, being registered the IP address and that of their Wallet, and what is most worrying is that this information can be shared with third parties, according to certain criteria of its policies.

Highlighting that this action of storing the aforementioned data, would only be carried out if the user makes the transfer implementing Metamask, and its RPC provider, Infura, said provider by default of this Wallet, is a platform that allows a connection with Blockchain networks, thus allowing developers to build or develop Smart Contracts, and this type of software generates instructions that are stored in the Blockchain, and are designed to self-execute.

Both the IP address and the Wallet address are data that could be implemented to reveal the identity and activity performed by any user on the network, remember that one of the characteristics of the Blockchain is to permanently record all transactions made by users, Therefore, the concern of users lies in the fact that the developer of this Wallet (ConsenSys) by storing this information, enables the risk of privacy in two ways, the first is that it can give that information to third parties, and the second is that if the database is hacked, the information could leak or go public.

Would changing the RPC provider in your Metamask configuration be the best option?

It is the best option for those users who are concerned about their privacy, of course if they wish to continue using this Wallet, when changing RPC provider, neither Infura, nor Metamask could store the IP address or the address of the Ethereum Wallet of its users, this is expressed in the same privacy policies of ConseSys, it only remains to express that users who decide to make such a change, they would have to investigate and ensure that the option you select does not perform the same action of storing your IP address and your Ethereum Wallet.

It is always necessary the permanent research in relation to any aspect of our Wallets, this will keep us away from possible leaks of information of each of our transactions, and we continue to highlight the fact of decentralization of the intermediate platforms that connect with Blockchain networks.

Until another opportunity my dear friends.
