A lot has changed since I joined crypto and I joined crypto in 2018. Crypto has grown from being a “digital coin to make you rich” to becoming a technology that will help improve the whole digital space. I have been in crypto for 4 years and out of those 4 years I have experienced 2 years bear run, later faced about 6 months Bull run and continued the remaining years experience with another bear run. But it has all been worth it because the 6 months Bull run can change your life if you don’t give up. The 6 month Bull run is worth the 2 years bear run as it always rewards you for hodling.

2021 was the time I realized how value is attached to things with the NFT trends. The first time I heard about NFTs I thought it was absurd, I was like, “why would I pay huge amount of money for a photo I can screenshot or save on my phone for free”. I was extremely amazed when I read the beeple sale that was worth millions of dollars. I came to the understanding that the value of anything is based on how much people are willing to pay for it and that is demand.

Adoption

Lots of people have adopted crypto more since I joined crypto. When I joined crypto not much people knew about it, I was practically the only one in my neighborhood who knew about crypto and talked about it a lot. Whenever I talked about crypto, people always end up calling it scam or a fad that we won’t hear of in the next 5 years. Not much platforms accepted crypto as a means of payment then. But today we have lots of people talking about crypto, lots of businesses publicly accepting bitcoin as a means of payment.

The sport industry is almost dominated by crypto sponsors as we have lots of exchanges sponsoring and partnering with these sport clubs. Next is the music industry as Binance partnered with “The Weeknd”, a Canadian pop star, to be his official tour sponsor. In my country, Binance was the official sponsor for “Nigerian Idol”. A music competition program, that lots of people watch, this is to create more crypto awareness and it seems to be working.

The Everyday Birth Of Shitcoins

If you go to CoinMarketCap and view the newly listed coins, you will observe how quick people are in creating lots of shitcoins. It wasn’t this much when I started in 2018, right now it’s a lot and it’s hilarious, over 50 new tokens get rolled out and listed on CoinMarketCap everyday and almost 70% of all Of them are shitcoins.

NFT Minting Trends & Wars

Every second I check Twitter, I see one new NFT give away, it’s exhausting because they are too much and all of them follow the same set up of liking, retweeting and tagging 3 friends. That is the trend and they talk about whitelisting a lot, these were not available in 2018 when I joined crypto.

DeFi

When I joined crypto there was no DeFi, I started noticing DEFIs late 2020. DeFis are way popular now and adopted right now, you stake your assets and earn yields for holding, when I joined crypto all I could do was hodl, but now I have the chance of staking and earning more through DEFIs.

Web 3.0

The first time I heard of Web 3.0 was in 2021 when I joined Hive. This was not available in 2018 when I joined crypto, May be it was, but I was not paying attention or I didn’t notice it.
