Hitting Road Blocks: What’s Your Motivation?

Hey guys, so I just want to make a short diary about my node running journey, as blogging is one way to let out my frustration.

One of the reasons I don’t like starting something new is because I don’t want to look back at what I started and regret I didn’t finish it. When I can’t finish it and hit a road block, I get restless and continue thinking about it, I won’t be able to rest until I get it done or get it fixed. This is the reason I didn’t go into computer coding, rumor has it that you will need to check for a lot of bug fixes and knowing the type of person I am, I knew that will frustrate me. So I avoided anything that had to do with coding and constantly cross checking for errors. I used to face some road blocks in maths but more than 80% of the time, I always fixed it. While trying to look for a tech course to learn for my tech career, I chose product designing because it required less coding and more designing and creativity.

I was doing so well avoiding coding until I came across a crypto testnet program that required running a node. I decided to give it a look, and it was so confusing I had to close my laptop. I had no idea where to start or what to do. I have never written a code before or ran a node, as a matter of fact I didn’t know I had a terminal section on my laptop, left alone know what its use is. But today, all that changed when I tried to run a node on my laptop, I needed to read the step by step method of running the node and also watch a YouTube video to also guide me on how to run a node. Woke up 8:00 am and decided to run this node. I kept facing one road block or the other, each time I encountered one roadblock, I try to retrace my step and find the mistake. While doing all these, I realised that I was learning a lot along the line.

I got to the supposed final point, this is where I was supposed to know if my node was installed and running, I clicked the command to know if my node was running and I got an error message. Saying the node I was running doesn’t exist, this means that I have to go back and crosscheck each code to be sure it was inputted and run right. But unfortunately this was my third time restarting this whole thing and I can’t go anymore. I had spent 7 hours trying to fix this node and I am exhausted. I have to come back tomorrow and try again.
