Money Laundering Explained To An 11 Year Old

If an eleven year old walks up to you and ask you to explain what money laundering is, how would you do it? Remember you have to come down to their level so they can understand it and relate. Basically money laundering is presenting money that was gotten illegally to appear legal. So its supposed to mean washing illegal money to look legal. To an eleven year old who haven’t gotten a lot of experiences they dont know all this aspects of life. So look for something they are familiar with and explain this to them. An eleven year old is not too young to understand what money laundering is, because we are in the internet age where almost everything is displayed on the internet and can no longer be seen as a secret. So lets go.

An eleven year old knows what a PS5 is, and knows what a lemonade stand is and also knows what a go fund me is. To the eleven year old, the is how I will explain what money laundering is, to them. Imagine you wanted to buy a PS5 with over $700 and your parents said they are not going to buy it for you because its too expensive. So you decide to raise the money by setting a lemonade stand to raise the money, unfortunately, the lemonade stand didn’t make you enough money to buy the PS5. So you result to creating a fake go fund me page for children in need, but in this case, the only child in need is you, the eleven year old because you are in need of a PS5. You like and put some sad children photos in the go fund and the go fund me gets funded with $800. Now you have the money to buy the PS5, but you can’t buy the PS5 because your parents would want to know how you were able to raise the money.

So you set up another multiple lemonade stands and pretend like you are making sales, and these sales is helping you generate the money, since its lemonade and they are given to you in cash, there is no way your parents can investigate the money, so they take you to the store and help you buy the PS5 with the money. They tell you they are proud of you for making your own money and buying your PS5 yourself. But you know you dint get the money the right way, you lied to them and lied in the go fund me, but had to pretend with the lemonade stand to appear like its the source. That is money laundering, your parents are the authorities you pretend to, the lemonade stand is the business that helps you make the money look and appear legal so that the authorities(your parents) dont suspect and do more investigations. Because if they do and you get caught you will be in trouble. The fake go fund me is the illegal business. This is not right because its a wrong way to make money, any means of income that involves lying, cheating and stealing people to obtain is wrong.

Great explanation! The process looks cumbersome and I think that should demotivate the 11 year old from experimenting it, if he/she is the curious type.

Lols, you've really dissected this to an eleven year old. I think you should become a technical teacher. Don't know if such position really exist but you've proven to be one.
