What Does Work To Live Don’t Live To Work Means

Being an adult and experiencing the financial world of responsibility where you have to get a job or have a means of income will have you appreciating those times you didn’t have to fend for yourself, your childhood era. For some weird reasons, I have been seeing and hearing this catch phrase, “work to live don’t live to work”, for a sec it sounded like it meant the same thing to me. Just like water bottle and bottle water. But then I had to take a moment to assimilate what it means, and I think I see the difference now.

As an adult with financial responsibilities, we are obligated to wake up in the morning, and look for ways to make money to pay our bills, well, if we dont do it, the bills won’t pay itself. So this entails looking for a means to pay the bills, that is a pure form of survival, at this point, you are not thinking of any other thing to spend money on but just to survive. This means that you have to look for a means to provide food for yourself, pay rent and pay for the utility bills. By the time your salary comes, 75% or more is going for the bills, the remaining 25% is barely enough to sustain you for extra curricular activities like going for a spa, going for vacation, buying expensive things for yourself and feeling good. Then the next morning, the cycle continues and you are back to doing the same thing, again, again, again and again. This is usually common among most minimum wage or rather salary earners. If you figure, most times when this is the situation, their bosses is usually the wealthiest, and this is what we call capitalism. Where the workers are not being paid their worth, but paid in a way that gets their bosses richer. You find out that most times these people spend most of their times working so hard with lesser chances of getting the financial freedom.

Its not because of how lazy they are, because most of them are not lazy, they are always ready to work as long as they get paid, but then, sadly they live their lives working. They are not working because they love their job or because they have passion for it, they are working because they have no choice, if they dont work, they will either starve or become homeless. They can’t even afford to invest because they are too busy trying not to remain poor. Which is quite different from a person who works to live. This particular person who works to live works to fund their lifestyle. They want to go on vacation, their work will pay for that, they want a new car, their work will pay for that, they want to buy something expensive for theirselves, their work will pay for that. They are not working to afford the basic things off life which are food, shelter, paying bills, etc. because they have those in abundance and their work pay them more than enough for that. So this people are not working to just survive but working for the passion they have in what they do.

Some people might be working for the passion they have in job while its still under paying them, but they might have a very good source of income by the side that is funding their lifestyle and sustaining them while they are working for the other job. This is my little understanding on the subject, let me know what you think.
