World Photography: Emerald Cedar Trees

Round 21

Theme is TREES OF THE WORLD

Emerald cedars are one of my favorite trees to plant by the house to enhance the landscape. They stay the same all seasons.

Hubby and I planted the trees about nine years ago and they grow about one foot a year~ can reach twenty feet in height and will also get wider. They are planted on the North side which I thought would help in the winter to keep the harsh winds and blowing snow at bay. Not so much but maybe when they get wider!

Why the trees are different sizes? I don’t know as they were all the same size when planted.

I has intended to trim the new growth off the top each year but as the old saying goes,

“ The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”

A couple grackles arrive every spring and nest in the tallest tree by the house to have their babies. They like the dense close branches of the beautiful bright green foliage so their nest is not detected.

This is one of the Emerald cedars by the deck. I have used it to decorate with lights for Christmas but it is also getting really tall. Another good intention I had to keep it trimmed. Now I’m afraid to cut much off it, besides new growth, as I might kill it.

The Emerald cedars strive in this growing zone, are maintenance free and keep their conical shape.

Location: Prince Edward Island, Canada.

I like its conical shape, it's perfect to sit next to on the eve of a picnic and a meal.

It is a beautiful tree near the house. I think it will be more beautiful at weddings. I like it when it's decorated، it's suitable for children when they play hide and seek 😊

Dear @redheadpei, sorry to jump in a bit off topic but may I ask you to support the HiveSQL proposal?
It lost its funding recently and your help would be much appreciated to keep the HiveSQL service free for the Hive community.
You can do it on Peakd, Ecency, Hive.blog or using HiveSigner.

Thank you for your support!

To make up for the times that fishing is bad, my husband and I grow plants. Sometimes you can treat every plant the same but others do better and some are not so good. I wish that I had a better answer for you but that is just the way it is.

Hi @myjob. True there is no definite answer to why some plants grow better than others.

Natural wind break a great idea to protect the home with evergreen trees. Trimming slips a bit with time and age, all good intentions go out the window !LOLZ

Hi Joan @joanstewart. Yes time passes quickly and those good intentions with them. 😆

After trying unsuccessfully with some gardening I decided slightly 'wild garden' with ferns would do best, it's green, pretty and the dogs love it. Good intentions of a flower garden completely out of the window!

Beautiful photos Jo and the trees are gorgeous!! I bet that tree is even prettier with the Christmas lights on it! I think I would be wary of trimming them also. My concern would be the same with what you said about the "good intentions". They can sometimes come back and bite you in the butt as they say..lol. That is interesting how the trees grew differently when they were all the same size when planted. I think they look very nice the way they are though. Grackles.. they can be a nuisance but I do like them too. They only visit occasionally here to my yard. I saw some birds in my neighbor's backyard a week or two ago. I thought they were Starlings but when I looked closely at my photos I could see they were Grackles. No mistaking their eyes. 💖
Good luck in the contest and wishing you a most wonderful weekend!! 💞

Thanks Dee. 💕 The grackles can be aggressive toward other birds or animals in the yard. I saw them chasing a raven away. One good thing is they search the lawn for insects. I hope they eat the ants that come around this time of the year.

After I put their food out this morning, there were two grackles, many bluejays, a dove and a chipmunk all eating rather peacefully. 😆

These emerald trees are so cool. I think the best thing about them is what you said about them staying the same all season. You mean they never wither or turn brown?

Thanks @nevies. Yes, they stay the same even in winter, never wither or turn brown.

That's really great. That's about the perfect tree. And they also double as Christmas trees 😃.

I don't have a green thumb at all and I might kill these beautiful trees just looking at them, so my wife takes care of the plants and flowers we have in our apartment and on the balcony, andshe even waters the plants and cacti in my office 😅

These are beautiful cedars, Jo, and I like the way they are taller the closer they get to the house as it looks in the first image.

Hope you're having a wonderful Sunday, dear Jo 🤗🌞

Hi Hannes. Good your wife takes care of the plants but I’m sure you could do a fine job of it. 😊

We are having a nice summer. It’s been hot during the day but cooling down at night which is great.

I’m happy you like these cedars, dear Hannes. Thanks for everything, 😊

Sunday looks to be another nice day here. Wishing you the same. 🤗

I have even killed cacti because I thought they would need more water, so it's good that my wife does that job and I enjoy the plants 😉

The last two nights have been rainy and it was awesome cool in the mornings, but from tomorrow on the heat will be back, says the weatherman 😅

Enjoy your day, dear Jo 😊
