Mayabi Waterfall (Hidden Gem of Jaflong)

Jaflong, a natural phenomenon!

There are various tourist spots available in Sylhet. Most of them are natural phenomenon. It may sound surprising but this is what makes them very exquisite and mind bending to visit. They are spread out all over Sylhet, which makes it even more exciting to just thinking about that. Even more surprising fact is, some of the tourist places changes their beauty depending on the season. As some places shows their true form of beauty during summer, while some at winter and some at rainy season. Which makes it even more exciting as there are always places to visit for us no matter whatever the time of the year is!

Jaflong, itself is a place where you will get the feelings of variety of experiences. The feel of being in two countries border and witnessing the connection of nature between them. While the river that flows from another country and you get to witness it. Wet your feet in cold and clear water while walking into the water and also the small, big rockbed which lies in the river. That excitement of walking into the river makes it even more exciting in the trip. While almost everyone gets all the above feelings from Jaflong but today I am going to share another hidden gem which lies in Jaflong

Mayabi Waterfall

I was lucky enough to visit different waterfalls over the course of my life. Saying from those expectations, Mayabi waterfall was probably the best experience of my life so far. One of the reason was I was able to get close to the waterfall, get wet by water falling from the hill. That view and sensation was worth all the hassle to reach to this destination.

I probably can not express in words, how the feeling actually was! But all I can say, now I understand and feel, why explorers dives into the nature and why they love it so much! While I was climbing the rocks to get to a spot where the water was falling as if you are having a shower in your bath room but in here natural water replaced our tap water and beyond that the speed of the water falling from the top of the hill was probably 10 times faster than we are actually used to.

As soon as I reached the waterfall, my very first words were, it is damn beautiful and it is impossible for me to get to the peak. As my leg was broken and I had terrible pain in my ankle as it took almost 10-15 minutes of walking distance to reach to this destination. But luckily my wife became too much excited as this was her first time getting close to a waterfall and she could resist herself driving me along with her to reach out to the top. And as a gentle men it became an obligation to keep my mistress happy. Thus avoiding all the pain, I along with her started to climb my Everest (at that point).

Since, our goal was to reach to this waterfall, we skipped touring to the actually zero point of Jaflong. Which did actually save a lot of our time and helped us reach to the waterfall with much less people than we anticipated. To reach to the waterfall we had to take a boat on rent. We avoided taking a boat with engine. We wanted to get the pure feel of going with a boat. The person who was rowing the boat he did helped us a lot. He stopped at the middle of the river where there were stones and we took out different pictures from there. It actually felt like as if we were floating on the river.

The views from the boat were mind blowing. Although, the sun was at its peak and glowing to its full but yet we almost did not noticed it. As we were simply busy on the things which were happening around us. Like keeping our legs floating into the water. Collecting stones from the boat as we hit few shores while we were going to the waterfall.

Destination (almost) to the waterfall arrived!

As you can see there were boats already who wrought people to the waterfall and are waiting for the return of them from the waterfall.

Now the main task for us was awaiting! After we landed on this side of the river we had to take a walk for almost 10 minutes. And it took much longer for me as I had to take stops at different times due to my leg injury. Even though we were walking during the noon the sunshine was quite impossible to bear. As there were small vendors under the sheds we took some rest out there and had lime juice for refreshments. It was life saving indeed!

Well, after all these we stayed at the waterfall for almost 3-4 hours. Enjoying the water taking a shower and taking loads of pictures for memories. We enjoyed this much that we even forgot about having lunch lol. But even though I visited Jaflong quite a lot of times but this was something special for me. Few new memories were added into my life and few tasks which I did was also unforgettable from my side. Overall a trip to be excited about whenever I will think about it!

All the images are captured by me!

Best regards
Rehan
