Monkey Jack Fruit | A fruit from my childhood | Health Benefits!
I don't know after how many years I get to see this fruit!
Monkey jack fruit, though we call it 'Dewa' in our native Bangla. It's a very rare fruit only available in the Indian subcontinent and part of South Asia. The fruit believed to have medicinal value.
I can remember, my Maternal Grandparents have this fruit tree. This is not available nowadays, people don't eat it anymore. After so many years I found it to a street seller. I was out for some grocery shopping and all of a sudden saw a street vendor is selling this. This fruit is very cheap but the taste is very sour and had a hard tangy flavor. I guess that's why people don't like it that much.
But in my childhood, we used to eat it. Well, it was not our favorite but we ate it a lot. Today while tasting it after many years, I couldn't actually. Because of the hard sour taste. I don't know how we used to eat it. I guess that's why this fruit got this name, monkey jack fruit.
Inside of the fruit
just like jack fruit
Seeds
The inside and texture of this fruit are just like jackfruit. Even the seeds are also the same. People eat the ripe fruit. Also, I get to know that some use this to eat as a mashed curry. The fruit is very nutritious. People believe that this sour taste is good to treat diabetics. Also, it's good for heart and guts.
I found this on a trusted website. If you are interested you can learn more Here
There are many more benefits of this fruit. It seems like it's a magical fruit. But unfortunately people these days are not that interested in this type of natural source of medicine. I agree that the taste is not that good but we always can find alternative ways to consume, right?

This is not a fruit from my childhood. In fact I’m not sure I’ve even tried it! I’m a fan of sour so I might actually enjoy it. Thanks for all the info and the background on your childhood.
It's actually a very southeast Asian thing, so it's okay to not know about this.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Stay safe!
