My visit to a very popular Haat/Open Market.

Weekly haat/open market is a very popular concept in rural Bangladesh. Haat means an open market in Bangla where sellers from different areas join to showcase their products and a huge crowd usually forms to buy their necessary products. I had no idea that I would witness something similar in the city. To my wonder, this Haat is much bigger and way more popular.

This haat organized for many years, in this area called 'Meradia- Banasree, Dhaka; Bangladesh'. It usually takes place every Wednesday, from morning till evening. Although it's on a weekday but the amount of people who come here for shopping is huge.

I have heard that 10/15 years back, this place used to be an open space without the highrises you are seeing. That time it was probably much more like a regular haat. But now it's more like experiencing shopping in someone's front yard, in the middle of the streets.

There are no permanent shops, all the seller usually put their products on a sheet and showcase them like this. Some seller uses rickshaw vans, others sit on a bench.

Every Wednesday, the streets go so crowded I usually avoid going into this area. But couldn't resist this time as I had a shopping list too.

You can already guess, the price of the products is comparatively very cheap. I have found that it's almost 20-30% less than the regular market price. That's the major reason why so many people across the city come here for shopping.

Moreover, the variety of products they sell on this haat is more than enough. I mean you can find anything and everything that we use in daily life. You name it, you will find it.

From my experience, this haat is best for finding regular wear. You will find hundreds of shops that sell different types of clothes. Also, to find kitchen items, this can be the best place. I have seen some products which I haven't seen in other marketplaces. For example, some small kitchen gadgets.

What fascinated me most is the crockery shops. They have such a cute collection and the price is so reasonable, I wish I could buy some more.

I have bought a few products, some clothes, a few small serving dishes, some food products, a toy, and some more nitty gritty things. I'm very happy that I visited this place and had the experience of buying something there.

I would suggest anything planning to go there, be prepared to face a huge crowd, keep a bottle of water, a bag to carry what you would buy, and mental preparation to negotiate. You may not enjoy the shopping experience but will love the prices that I can guarantee.

Have a Happy Market Friday, everyone.

The open market in your city is very good, almost everything is available there, if in our country it is called a weekend market, we can buy anything in that market at a lower price

You got it right. It is also called the weekend market, the name Haat is kind of referred to the same.
Good to hear that you got something similar over there. Thanks :)

What a colorful and vibrant market my dear friend remona. I always love to explore a kind of shopping like this because products are cheaper compared to malls. We also have a type of market here near my place but I love how vivid the products there. Perhaps my eyes caught attention on the pink items, my favorites, hehe. Happy Market Friday!

As always, dear Remona, hehe. Yes, we have something like that here, but most of the time, cheaper products are on sale during nighttime. I always wanted to go to a market with this exciting stuff.

Quite an experience I must say.
This could be related to our trade fair term here where seller conduct this kind of open sales of products at cheaper price as well.
Although it is not frequent but sometimes just a yearly activity.

I love open trades like this since there is alot to see and buy.
Thanks for sharing

What an experience!! I'm ready! Let's go! The crowds are huge and the haggling is real! But: You get what you need and want.

Aren't those places just amazing that there is so much activity every week? Will you be going back anytime soon? What is the best item that you have bought at one of these?

What a great time! Thank you for showing it off! Now we are all jealous! :)

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

I love the place, to be honest; primarily because of the budget deal. But I have no plan to visit anything soon, maybe someday later. As I have said, ceramic products seemed best to buy from this market. Because the price is way higher in other places, also, they have good quality and a huge collection.
Thanks. Have a good day.
