Social Media Fasting - Week Two | Decluttering social media!

The second week is running and I'm still fasting!

Yeah, I'm talking about my 'social media fasting' initiative. I took the decision to step back from all of my social media accounts, all of a sudden. I was not sure if I can have this much patience to leave without any social media and but surprisingly I'm doing fine.

First, I've to confess that I couldn't resist myself from peeking occasionally, not because of what others are doing but because I had something to search there. And then...I surprisingly found myself scrolling for 15 minutes there, unknowingly. Then I thought to uninstall everything. But it doesn't work. Because you know, social media nowadays serve different purposes and I had to use it for like several minutes for reason.

Then I thought about Decluttering my accounts!! I will talk about it in detail. But before that, I need to say to you how much better I'm feeling!

It feels fresh. I'm not overstating, it really feels fresh. It's like my brain got enough space to fill up what's happening around, not just content from social media. I'm giving more time to life, to everything happening around, I'm being more mindful, I'm having good sleep. And most importantly it brings peace of mind. Because, no I'm only going through what I need not what others are pushing me to watch or listen or read. It feels like I'm having more control over my mental health. And it's really working positively, I guess.

But...

As I can't leave without social media, I guess no one can for a different reason so I had to declutter it. I didn't have many friends, it's less than a thousand. And my following list is also very low. I'm not tagged with many groups or unnecessary activities. So it was not tough for me to declutter.

So, what I did?

I immediately leave some of the groups I don't feel interested in anymore. I've unfollowed many who I think are not serving any purpose. I was hiding adds and content which I've no interest so that my feed can remember to not show them anymore. I limited my notification. Like only if I get tagged and if I comment anywhere, now I'm getting those notifications only.

Now it looks like a perfect place where I can spend a little quality time. I know unnecessary content and ads will pop out here and there and I have to focus on what I need. So, I decided to limit my usage as well. Not more than one hour or less if possible in a day. I have a plan to stay totally out of it for another two weeks. Let's see what happens!

I have written down my first week's experience of social media fasting as well. You can read it Here if you want. What do you think? Am I going the right way? Or I need to add more to this initiative. Share it with me!

Much Love

It's a good thing to try to make time for your life and things around you. But wait, is Hive not a social media 🤔.

ha ha ha...You can guess what I'm talking about; all the popular social media.
I still don't consider Hive as social media, it's still not there. Do you?

Smile, I see hive as one also but an interesting and more advanced one.

Yeah, surely an advanced one. For me, it's not as non-productive as other social media (as per I use them). So I don't compare it with other popular social media. I love to stay here and maybe never feel to cut it off.
Have a nice day!

I wish I could but not possible for me because I live far away from home. So, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat are my options to stay connected with my friends, family, and Bangladesh. I wanted and reduced using some social media applications but my dad will be crazy if he doesn't see my updates...

His tension level will become high and he will become sick thinking about me... Anyway, personally I appreciate your step and decision... I wish I could...

I use all the messaging app like FB messenger, zoom and google meet. Those are not harmful and enough for communication. I stopped posting my photos anywhere because of 'Porda' and 'Hijab'...so it doesn't bother me. But the thing is I used to scroll on social media for unnecessary reasons. I think, now it's helping me to give more time to myself and my family.
I totally understand you. It's very impossible to leave social media if you are living abroad. Do whatever you think best for you.
Thanks for sharing :) :)
